The Miami Ute replied to the topic C. Smith in the forum Basketball (Men) 1 year ago
Well, I think that he can keep his job because the guy that hired him is still his boss and he’s only on Year 3 of a guaranteed six year contract. I’ve been saying that, probably due to money issues, Smith gets at least one more year. Now, if the Utes end the year with an eight game losing streak and ultimately losing record with a talented,…[Read more]

Just as I thought, the loss to ASU has been annotated as a Quad 3 home loss. Any one of those essentially start making you radioactive to the tournament selection committee. If Smith doesn’t right the ship in the remaining five games, I don’t know where we go from there. There might be 100 people in the stands for home games next season.

Here’s a plausible scenario. Utah has three consecutive road games until they come back to the Huntsman to play Stanford. Those games are at USC, UCLA, and Colorado, all places where Utah has not fared well historically in the best of times. If the Utes go 0-3 on that road trip, they will be 10th in the PAC 12 conference standings with four games…[Read more]

I’m originally from Miami, and just north of Miami there’s an university called Florida Atlantic University (FAU). FAU is a commuter school in an urban environment with no fanbase, a high school gym for an arena and low academic standing. They’re easily the 7th or 8th best school (maybe) in the state of Florida. Yet FAU made it to the Final…[Read more]

Playing at home against a bad team (who was coming off losses at home to both Cal and Stanford), in a game that you desperately needed to have to remain within touching distance of a tournament berth, and you lay an egg. Just frustrating. Hard to see how Utah picks up enough wins in the remaining seven games, five of which are away, to make it…[Read more]

Frustrating, that’s all I can say. Utah looks it’s still groggy from the 3OT loss to Zona. I can’t emphasize enough how much of a bad loss this would to be in the Utes’ tournament resume.

Maybe only when they play Utah. I mean, they just got blown out at home by a bad Cal team.

Free throw shooting hasn’t improved. Only 4/9 so far this game.

The Utes play on the road in five of their last seven games. They need this victory or it’ll be seen as a bad loss on their tournament resume. And let’s face it, even though ASU blew out Utah in Tempe, they’re a bad team that’s lost routinely in double figures this season.

But hey, none of this happens if Bill O’Brien hadn’t pulled a Bellichick and left to be the HC at Boston College moments after being hired as the OC at tOSU.

Larry Scott was the commissioner of the PAC 12 for over 12 years. Over 12 years!!! No one anywhere is able to last so long in any leadership position unless he/she has top cover at the highest levels.
You’re right. The PAC presidents should have been the adults in the room but they took their hands off the steering wheel and let Scott do…[Read more]

Kelly’s buyout called for him to receive $8.5 million if he was dismissed before December 2023 and $4.27 million if he was terminated before December 2024. Those were the numbers based off his latest entension.

I’m waiting for Lincoln Riley to follow him out the door to the NFL.

Yeap. One of the referees last night was BYU’s baseball manager for a decade. I guess that because he’s no longer associated with BYU no one thought it was a big deal.

The Utes had a three minute scoring drought in the 3rd OT. Impossible to win like that.

The Utes needed this game badly. The biggest problem is that five of the last seven games are on the road. They need two or three road victories to feel good about postseason chances.

Arizona: 15-17 from the foul line. Utah: 6-15 from the foul line. That’s the story of the game right there.

Yeah, the number of shots in the 3-5 foot range they missed in the first half was mind boggling.

I completely agree. I posted something almost exactly the same a while back and used the example of various professional soccer teams in Latin America. There are a number of teams whose name is Universidad XXXX but are completely professional entities.
