DrahtUte replied to the topic Finally watching Weber game for the first time. Nate Johnson is good. in the forum Football 1 year, 2 months ago
There’s no need to knock on Bryson in order to be excited about Nate’s future.
I think Bryson is better than what he showed against Baylor. It’s unlikely he’ll ever get another chance to show that to us Ute fans though. It’ll be a tough way to end a football career, if that’s how things go.
No need to pile on a kid for pursuing his dreams but…[Read more]

DrahtUte replied to the topic Feels like the majority of the Colorado hype train in the forum Pac-12 1 year, 2 months ago
All the hype is just going to make it that much more fun when they come crashing back down to earth.
It’s kind of like the schadenfreude we get to enjoy each and every year with YBU.
Now that I think think about it, maybe this makes Colorado finally our real rival.

Tony – I’ve been trying to learn some web coding myself and now I’m getting a whole new appreciation for what you’ve created here. It’s extremely impressive that you’ve done all this on the side and that you went through so much work just to give us Ute fans a place to talk. Thanks!

DrahtUte replied to the topic Unpopular Opinion? in the forum Football 1 year, 2 months ago
Last night’s game was the first time I’ve seen Colorado and the thing that surprised me most was how often Shedeur got tackled in open space by a single defender. He’s clearly still a good runner but I was shocked at how many times he appeared easy to tackle.

DrahtUte replied to the topic Nate Johnson / Tyler Huntley in the forum Football 1 year, 2 months ago
I brought up the comparison because I thought it was interesting.
It’s a good point about the competitiveness and confidence. It doesn’t seem like the moment is ever going to be too big for Nate – just like Huntley. Along with Barnes other shortcomings, it seems like he was also just flat out folding under the pressure.
I’ve also always thought…[Read more]

DrahtUte replied to the topic Nate Johnson / Tyler Huntley in the forum Football 1 year, 2 months ago
I also don’t recall Huntley being as good at making defenders miss as Nate when running. He was fast on his feet but I don’t remember him being super shifty. Am I misremembering?
I know it’s a small sample size but I’m feeling confident in saying Nate might be one of the more elusive running qbs we’ve ever had.
I’m also 100% confident Nate is…[Read more]

Since someone made reference the other day to Johnson as a freshman vs Huntley as a freshman, I’ve been trying to decide how comparable they are.
Huntley obviously had a cannon for an arm his last couple seasons. I can’t recall if he had it as an underclassman though. He was so slim, I’m having difficulty imagining he did.
Nate’s highlights…[Read more]

DrahtUte replied to the topic Shouldn't our offense be better? in the forum Football 1 year, 2 months ago
Meh, we’re a defense oriented program and always will be with Kyle.
I know other fan bases like trying to complain that it’s boring to watch a team that focuses on defense and a ground-and-pound offense but that’s only because their teams can’t do it. When it’s your team that’s slowly choking away the other team’s will to live through stifling…[Read more]

DrahtUte replied to the topic Enjoy Watching Clark Phillips Play Tomorrow. in the forum Football 1 year, 12 months ago
I am out of state and have to watch all my games on t.v. It really destroys the opportunity to witness exceptional corner back play. When Phillips is locking receivers up and preventing them from even getting targeted, he almost never shows up on the screen.

Let’s go Utes!
I finally beat everyone to it and get to make one of these threads. It’s the silver lining in having to pick up my kid at 3am from his away game for football. -

Jordan Wynn, Travis Wilson and Cam Rising seem so similar. All had tremendous talent and potential as QBs coming out of Southern California. They all seemed to bring the laid-back, quiet confidence you want in a team leader. All tall QBs with different but effective ways of winning.
We never got see Jordan or Travis reach their full potential…[Read more] -

Made me pretty sick to my stomach to see Cam’s arm shout shoot out like that and him go floppy. He was obviously knocked out.

It would have been a shutout for the defense too if it weren’t for the offense turning it over.

Leach should be calling out his defensive backfield first and foremost. Huntley and the receivers made them look completely lost all night.

DrahtUte replied to the topic Night before the Wazzu game feelings? in the forum Football 5 years, 2 months ago
I’m feeling confident about the game. The moment got too big for the Utes last week. They don’t handle high expectations well. Never have.
But that’s all over now. Tomorrow they’ll get back to playing smart, hard-nosed football again.

This is how I feel too. The loss was incredibly hard to take but I think the rest of the season is going to be a lot more enjoyable for me now that my expectations have been reset.
