Not that it really matters, but did Rose get hurt on the wildcat play to Kuithe by the goal line. I thought I recalled Rose being lined up at wide receiver on that play and engaging with a byu defender and got tossed to the ground. Seems like he was limping afterwards. I could totally be wrong on this though, I’d need to go back and watch the game, which I don’t want to do.

Red Rhino, I think you nailed it. Other than Cam and Huntley his senior year, this has been the case with every QB under Whit. It took Cam and Huntley years to gain Whit’s trust. I have no idea how good Wilson could have been this year, but Whit hounding him in the media and I’m sure in person about those early picks he threw against Southern Utah and Utah St didn’t help. Now he’s too afraid to let it rip unless someone is wide open. This pattern has repeated itself over and over with Ute qbs.

I will say, I think Whit has been exceptional as a head coach overall, just think he has mismanaged QBs his entire tenure.

Local media seems to think there was no possible way the Ute staff didn’t know the significance of the injury. Starting to wonder if this is a possibility though. Based on what we found out last week about the injury, there is no way Rising would be ready now, or possibly the rest of the year. The actions of whit and the staff don’t give any indication they knew this. This has gone beyond trying to get a competitive advantage over the competition by being cryptic who the starting qb would be.

Totally agree. NJ wasn’t great, but when he did get some time he was able to step into his throws and made a couple of nice passes. Lots of blame to go around for the entire offense.

Fumbled on the qb run, which was recovered by UCLA.
Fumbled when he was blindsided in the pocket, but he was able to jump on it.
Fumbled when he was handing off to Glover, but was able to recover it near the end zone. Seems like he never had a good handle on the ball after taking the snap.

If they roll out Barnes against Florida I’m going to lose it. He proved against Penn St that he can’t compete against high level competition at a consistent level. I like the guy as a 4th string emergency qb, but definitely not the backup. I get Rose and Johnson are young, but they should be good enough to beat out Barnes. Hopefully Rose and Johnson both show well the next couple weeks and this is a non issue. Or even better, Cam is ready to go.

I heard that too, but I think it was a guest host that said it. There were two fill ins on the show tonight.

The backup QB decision seems like an important one for the coaches. Since both QBs are in the same class (redshirt freshmen I believe) seems like there would be a chance for the QB who is not named the backup to transfer. Although, it seems like the QB recruiting has really improved over the past couple years, so a transfer won’t hurt as bad as in the past. This is also a common occurrence at big programs.

Tin foil hat stuff and maybe completely wrong. Based on how the coaches have handled the qb situation towards the end of the year, it sure seems like they are doing everything they can to create a good situation for Isaac Wilson to make sure he doesn’t de-commit.
Wilson seems super committed to Utah, but with the way he blew up this year he’s bound to get a lot of attention from some blue bloods. Not having an established young qb and having Cam come back for just one more year is the perfect situation for Wilson.
Like I said, probably wrong and the coaches just love Barnes, but just an idea.
