So I will modify my opinion based on that study: Recruiting no longer matters on offense, but it does matter on defense. The study clearly shows that offensive players from the portal are better than recruits, but the opposite is true on defense.

I’m one of them. Recruiting is no longer important. Sorry…it’s true. The portal is all that matters.

I see a little value. It helps you work out some of the kinks, substitution patterns, and other timing-related issues. It gives your new players a dry run at the game day schedule: Where to be at what time, what to eat and when, etc.
