FYI that 10.49 by Nate Johnson would’ve gotten him to the semifinal heats at the Olympics.

My perfect football season just involves me and my boys enjoying cool fall evenings at RES. Everyone puts their phones away, and we just watch football and talk. If we’re talking about the absolute perfect season, then the boys stop fighting with each other until the next day. And the Utes play the best football they can, we’re thoroughly…[Read more]

It sounds like this is the most likely option at this point. Depending on what it means, it could be an absolute coup for Utah. I really can’t imagine a better outcome for Utah than some kind of super-duper conference that includes the B1G and ACC.

That’s a good segue to an interesting poll idea: What is the most overrated stadium you’ve ever been to?
I’ll go with The Big House. It was in a horrible state of disrepair. Rust stains on all the beams. Uncomfortable seats. Doesn’t trap sound at all, leading to a very church-like atmosphere. Trough urinals? Come on…this isn’t the army.

My bad…it was Iowa, not Ohio St. Sorry…I tend to get my useless flyover states confused.

Utah (under Whit, at least) is the last team you should be worried about getting full of itself. He simply won’t allow it.

GameForAnyFuss replied to the topic Locker rooms in the forum Football 3 years, 5 months ago
It used to be that teams would purposely build bad locker rooms for the visiting teams (I remember Ohio St. painted their visitor locker room pink), but today things are different. You want a really nice locker room for the visitors, because half their players are probably going to transfer after the season, so you want to make a good impression…[Read more]

Tucson being formerly a part of Mexico has nothing to do with it being a shithole. More to do with 7th-circle-of-hell weather and nothing to do.

And Tuscon is basically a third-world country now.

GameForAnyFuss replied to the topic Does it matter? in the forum Football 3 years, 5 months ago
I’m a fan of all things University of Utah – from the academics to the research to the athletics – and I always will be a fan. However, not being in the best possible situation would be devastating to all three aspects of the University.
So to answer the question: I will always be a fan, but in the general sense yes, it matters.

This is an excellent post from top to bottom.
Conference affiliation has ramifications that go far beyond athletics. In fact, as a former U employee in the research field, I would argue that the educational/research benefits of being in the PAC12 are actually greater than the athletic benefits. I can say unequivocally that we would not be in the…[Read more]

So…nothing? All sports involving human beings have politics involved.
To answer the original question, as someone who loves sports in general and not just the popular American sports, I’m happier than a pig in slop for the next three weeks. Right now I’ve got the Dalhausser/Lucena beach volleyball match on one TV, and a rousing fencing game on…[Read more]

Newest rumor: SEC also courting Michigan, Ohio State, Clemson, Florida St. Going for the 20-team superconference.
Would this force the PAC12’s hand? Would this cement a merger of the PAC12 and the remnants of the Big 12?

If the money is there, absolutely the legacy teams will want to be a part of it. Universities are under extreme financial pressure – their costs are rising astronomically, they’re dealing with budget cuts from their states/sponsor organizations, and you can’t just infinitely raise tuition to cover it. Sports, donations, and patent licensing are…[Read more]

I don’t think scandals will factor in. Penn St. and Michigan St. have much bigger scandals in their recent past than Baylor, yet their status in the Big 10 was never even questioned.
