Survival can’t be the only metric we use to assess the risk with this thing. There’s growing evidence of heart disease and blood clots associated with COVID. If it’s a high percentage and causes permanent damage, that’s game-changing from the standpoint of severity.

GameForAnyFuss replied to the topic So at this point are we hoping there is no football for anyone in the Fall? in the forum Football 4 years, 4 months ago
Sorry but the odds of that possibility are almost zero. I run a medical manufacturing business that has stayed open during COVID, and even with a payroll of nothing but adults and insanely strict hygiene protocols, we’ve had a couple times where 10% of our workforce had an active COVID case.
Now imagine the same scenario without the hygiene and…[Read more]

GameForAnyFuss replied to the topic So at this point are we hoping there is no football for anyone in the Fall? in the forum Football 4 years, 4 months ago
There are only two possible outcomes for schools that play football this fall (including BYU-Provo):
1. They get a bunch of COVID cases and miss part/most of the season.
2. They get a bunch of COVID cases, keep it under wraps, and there’s hell to pay when the truth finally emerges.I know it feels bad now, but history will show that postponing…[Read more]

Probably because universities are run by smarter people than high schools. And I don’t mean that as a political statement – there are more PhDs and MDs in the university systems, so they are more likely to err on the side of science than high schools.

There are a lot of unknowns with this virus, like with any new virus. I think the disagreements come down to unknowns and each individual’s/institution’s tolerance for risk.

GameForAnyFuss replied to the topic How much risk is too much? in the forum Football 4 years, 5 months ago
The other thing you have to consider is the reward associated with the risk. For example, we all take a risk every time we get into a car. But most of us conclude that the risk is worth the reward, so we go anyway.
What’s the risk/reward calculation for going ahead with college football during this pandemic? The risk of catching an illness that…[Read more]

Can’t believe what I’m reading here. I wouldn’t live in Utah County if the world was flooded with piss and Utah County was in a tree.

42. The number is 42.
In cases like this, you can’t quantify risk that way. I think the problem here is that COVID is not a known and accepted risk of football. All football players understand that there are risks of CTE, knee injuries, broken bones, etc. But nobody signed up to get an illness with potentially life-altering consequences. That’s…[Read more]

Wear a mask and pray for a vaccine. Those are the most useful things the average person can do if we want football in the spring.

Pete Thamel reporting that the PAC12 will move football to spring.
That means a summer where the only “sports” on TV are baseball, golf, and NASCAR. It’s my worst nightmare come true. -
GameForAnyFuss replied to the topic They so poo poo fans desperate for cancelled season in the forum They So Poo Poo 4 years, 5 months ago
A full season cancellation for everyone is really the only way they can avoid another major hit to their program. If the rest of the country is playing football and BYU-P players are watching on TV, the school will have to geoblock web access to the transfer portal to prevent a program-ending exodus.

We’d still come in just ahead of BYU-Provo, which is at 201.

It means if BYU-Provo had been their usual racist selves, maybe God would’ve gotten them into a P5 conference.
(Personally, I doubt that God works this way)

GameForAnyFuss replied to the topic Breaking: 2020 Pac-12 Football Schedule in the forum Football 4 years, 5 months ago
At the risk of being a downer, I don’t think we’re going to see any football past about week 5. So Utah could be in a very nice spot around that time.
