It was closer than it maybe should’ve been, but they got it done! What a great group of skiers! A national championship is always tough to win, no matter what sport.

I feel like a 64.5 point lead going into the last day is like a 17 point lead going into the last quarter of a football game (the game is well in hand, and barring a major collapse you’re probably going to win, but it’s not over yet). The caveat: Tomorrow is the slalom, the most unpredictable race in skiing. You can be winning and half a second later, you crash and finish last. If we ski smart, don’t take unnecessary risks, we’ll do well enough to win the whole thing. In other words, yes, we need to play not to lose.

I’ll never understand a post like this coming from somebody who loves the NBA. The NBA is completely unwatchable. Every game is like the all Star game in the NBA. The NBA is lazy basketball. The NBA makes baseball look like the pinnacle of athleticism.

Mark Engel finished on the podium at every race over the last two competitions. The kid has been racing on the World Cup for the US ski team, so he’s getting in some great prep work. This is the equivalent of a college golfer playing PGA events on the side – a huge credit to Mark!
