I agree with everything you said…except #5.
1. With the portal being such a huge part of college basketball, none of us have any idea what level of team we’ll be fielding.
2. Being in the Big 12 might increase our chances of getting into the tournament, even with a worse record. This year there are three teams with losing conference records…[Read more] -

Whew! Yeah, we are absolutely killing it two days into the championships. That’s a nearly insurmountable lead at halftime.
We lost to Colorad9 twice this year, but it looks like we’re likely to get the last laugh against those Birkenstock-wearing potheads. If we can avoid total disaster in the slalom and come away with a 20-point lead or so, I…[Read more]

Honestly I’m not sure. We have 3 events left and 2 are XC. We’re traditionally strong in XC, but I’m not sure about this year (we graduated a bunch of studs last year). And the one alpine event remaining – slalom – is the most unpredictable. It’s a game of inches where one misplaced ski tip in one turn can mean the difference between winning and…[Read more]

Today through the weekend is the NCAA skiing championships. Utah is looking for the five-peat (it would be six if it weren’t for COVID which cancelled the 2019 championship with Utah leading big). But unlike the last few years, we go in as the underdog. Colorado is the favorite – they have beaten us head-to-head twice this year.
But not so fast!…[Read more]

I’ll be blunt: Recruiting doesn’t matter any more. How you do in the portal is all that matters, and Craig has done pretty well in the portal.
Now as an Xs and Os coach? I’m still not sold, particularly on the defensive end.

GameForAnyFuss replied to the topic I don't much like out 2024 football schedule in the forum Football 11 months, 2 weeks ago
Front-loaded is a good thing for us this year. We have a veteran team that won’t need much time to gel. Our QB is a senior in his 48th year of college football. We have multiple years of experience at almost every position.
Remember, our front-loaded schedule is also front-loaded for our opponents, many of whom don’t return the amount of…[Read more]

Great win! Oregon looked really really good – the kind of team that can make noise in the tournament. By the time all is said and done, that’s going to be a win we can hang our hats on.
I’m just glad we won so I don’t have to go ballistic on that blocking call against Smith with 1:45 left in the game. That was one of the worst blocking calls I’ve…[Read more]

GameForAnyFuss replied to the topic Portal and NIL destroying the spirit and tradition of colllege football in the forum Ute Hub Site 12 months ago
If I hear you correctly, you’re saying that the tradition of college football is what keeps you coming back despite the problems being caused by NIL and the portal. And you keep it going because you want to pass those traditions along to your posterity.
That’s a great answer – I respect that a ton. And I suspect you’re not the only one who would…[Read more]

No, I don’t think NIL and the portal (in their current form) are good for college football. Or any other sport, for that matter. I think there are changes that could make NIL and the portal work, but this current “wild west” approach isn’t working.
Now back to my questions, if you don’t mind.
1. Why are you still watching? Why do you continue to…[Read more] -

I keep hearing how the portal and NIL are destroying college football. So why isn’t it showing in ticket sales and TV ratings? Everything I’ve seen says that college football is as popular as ever.
I’m curious to get a couple questions answered by some of you who say that the portal and NIL are ruining college football: If the portal and NIL are…[Read more]

GameForAnyFuss replied to the topic Struggles on the road in the forum Basketball (Men) 12 months ago
Stanford is the #3 team in the conference. They are not a bad loss on the road.
That said this is a game Utah should have won. Free throws were our undoing. 4 for 12 in a one-possession game is devastating.

That’s awesome…congratulations!
From an older U alum (class of 1999)…I know you didn’t ask for advice, but I’m going to give some unsolicited anyway: Treasure your college experience. You’ll only have it once. And if you do it right, it will be one of the best chapters of your life.
You will get out of your U experience exactly what you put…[Read more]

GameForAnyFuss replied to the topic Portal Question – Eligibility in the forum Football 1 year ago
No. Among other rules, you have to be enrolled and taking at least 12 credit hours at the new school before you can play or practice with the team (that goes for every player, not just transfers). Since the earliest Carsen could enroll would be spring semester, he would not be eligible to participate in any team activities until January 2nd,…[Read more]

GameForAnyFuss replied to the topic Maybe we will see Deivon Smith in the forum Basketball (Men) 1 year ago
Sorry to be the wet blanket…I doubt you’ll see him. NCAA bylaws state that if this temporary stay ends up getting reversed, teams that play with a player affected by the ruling will have to vacate any wins they pick up in the interim. That’s a risk you can’t take.
I don’t agree, just reporting the news.
