Stadium size is a red herring. I’ve said it before, from an entertainment/TV perspective its about engagement and atmosphere. A rocking, sold out RES is top tier. A 2/3 empty tarped-off Rosebowl is embarrassing. people see an empty crowd on tv and tune out–why? Because its a signal of a non-important game or disengaged fanbase, not worth…[Read more]

Not sure the Miller thing makes sense bc Smith will likely be gone after next year (barring a micaracle) and who know what a new coach will do with his staff. The big question who will replace Smith and who will be making that call.
I take it with a grain of salt bc its a comment on an article, but did anyone see this comment?:
What’s…[Read more]

Nice guy, decent coach, doesn’t prioritize D. I think most are seeing the writing, but with increasing win totals for a program that hasnt been relevant in a while, he gets another year. I just don’t see enough in-game adjustments, bringing in top recruits and focus on fundamentals to build a top tier program.

I think Utah is really well positioned for the new era of CFB. Obviously a little biased, but our program has a ton going for it–more than many bluebloods. Here’s why:
-50 or whatever straight sellouts–shows consistently dedicated and passionate fanbase. Fanbase and engagement will be a huge factor for a new league–even if a team is…[Read more]

Oh no doubt, Stanford wins more directors cups and swimming titles than anyone. But does that make them attractive for Football TV viewership? Chip Kelly had it right–just break Football off. If we start to include other non-football metrics for a new league, we’ll have games featuring Vanderbilt vs Stanford and no one is watching that.

ORute replied to the topic article ranking FBS teams desirability in further expansion in the forum Football 7 months, 3 weeks ago
Its an interesting conversation starter but this is all sorts of bass awkwards. If the most heavily weighted category includes “Fan Support and Facilities” and Stanford is still ranked 15 then something’s wrong. Same with UCLA. Those are 2 programs with mediocre historical football success and absolutely zero fan base. So both those programs…[Read more]

The impact of the Redrocks goes well beyond their direct P/L. It brings tons of exposure across a range of platforms. You’re also bringing in a market that MBB and FB typically doesn’t; women and kids. This obviously creates a wider ripple effect than direct ticket or concession sales. You develop a new fanbase that can connect with the…[Read more]

The mere fact that Barnes at any point in the season was considered the ‘best option to win’ says all we need to know about how the QB situation was mishandled.

ORute replied to the topic Barnes was always Whit’s QB2 in the forum Football 10 months, 4 weeks ago
I agree he is a great coach. The issue is whether the QB situation was handled well and could have been handled better. And no, the bowl game wasn’t hindsight–Whitt chose to go with a QB who had been mediocre all year, declared he was transferring, had 2 QBs who are on next years team that could use reps and despite BB aweful play, STILL kept…[Read more]

Reread it, I said our D won us 8. And yea, probably with anyone else we would have beat NU

Barnes didn’t win 8; our D won 3–Florida, Baylor, UCLA. Botarri won 1 – CO, NJ won 1 – Weber (could argue Baylor). Id credit Barnes with wins over USC and ASU. USC being his seminole moment, aside from that, can’t credit him with 8 wins.

ORute replied to the topic New Poll: Rate the coaching staff's 2023 Football Season in the forum Football 11 months ago
Id say this was a tale of 2 completely opposite sides of the ball. I’d give an A to the Defense, I’d give a C- to the offense. Special teams id say B+. Overall Id say B-
Here’s why:
Offense: Yes injuries were the story but we did not do much with what we had. Won’t even go into the QB fiasco, but that alone put the team behind the sticks. The…[Read more] -

WR isn’t the area of most need. If we cant buy the QB enough time and that QB can’t either find or hit open WRs, that’s not really a WR problem. In terms of priority, it starts with the OL. After the last couple years of improving OL play, this year was a step back. Run sets up pass in this offense, always has. Having a healthy and dominant…[Read more]

The offense has been putrid most of the year. Ive been on Ludwig since game 2 and everyone always says ‘oh, its the injuries, he’s our best OC under whit.’ Well, he wmight have been but this year hasnt been inspiring confidence

it’s 100% the coaches decision to continue to play a guy who cant hit the side of a barn, over developing a qb for next year. Why BB started, wasnt pulled and game-planned for after declaring transfer is 1000% on the coaches.
