He can score, although I wish he’d have been a little more efficient from the field (45% FG and 30% 3PT). Really like the 75% FT shooting and the fact that he improved shooting efficiency across each level from freshman to sophomore year. A little turnover prone though (3+ per game). Looks like a very good defender. A great addition to the…[Read more]

If we gave up the lead to a team like Florida (which TT just did), it’s more understandable. Against a below average team (they weren’t even a 0.500 team) in a below average conference (the Big East didn’t even have a Sweet 16 team)?!

I didn’t pay enough attention to Dawes’ defense throughout the year, but I agree w/ your assessment on his defense in the Butler game today. It lacked focus and intensity (i.e. effort). It seems like he’s athletic enough and has the body to be a great defender and a monster rebounder, right?

Miro Little was horrible. Example from today: We had a solid double-digit lead. Butler starts to make a run and gains some momentum. I think they cut the lead to mid/high single-digits. We are inbounding the ball from the sideline. They pressure our inbound. And he makes zero effort to get open. Instead, he tries to body up against a bigger…[Read more]

I am so done w/ this team. I hope I can forget all the low quality basketball I watched this year. I’m so excited for Alex Jensen to clean house and get us back to gritty fundamental basketball. Good riddance to the lack of fundamentals, the inconsistency, the complete absence of grit, the constant underachieving, losing to teams we should…[Read more]

Teams that rely heavily on the 3 + don’t play consistent defense = the most likely upsets in March Madness. I’ve watched many of their teams rely on this formula only to make an early exit in March. Hopefully, this year is no different.

I rest my case. How is Demin still considered even a first round pick? He is terrible! 6 points on 2-9 shooting w/ 4 assists and 5 turnovers. When it’s crunch time and the pressure is on, they play Hall (Mark Pope’s guy) over Demin! Kevin Young has not helped to develop Demin. Against good opponents, Demin has looked like a deer in…[Read more]

On your second point, I’ll definitely tip my cap. It’s been a very impressive season for sure and they deserve the praise they’re getting right now, particularly for what they’ve done in the last month. Although, I do think the B12 is weaker this year (relative to what it has been in the past and relative to, say, the SEC this year). I mean, a…[Read more]

I don’t think I really criticized them as much as I just stated a couple of facts to remind everyone about: 1) They are 5-5 against Utah in the last ten games. 2) Draft stock for Demin and Catchings has fallen, not risen, since they landed in Provo.
I agree w/ you on everything else you said.

I am a season ticket holder and I fill my seats every game, but at the end of the day…if you as a player want to play in front of a great crowd, then play good basketball and make it easier on the fans. Mason Madsen couldn’t even get off the bench on a frustratingly mediocre team (couldn’t make free throws, turnovers like every other…[Read more]

1) They act like they own the rivalry in basketball. In the last ten games, Utah is 5-5 against the TDS! I’m surprised that nobody has written about this in the local media.
2) They rubbed their first-round NBA draft picks in our faces heading into this year. How’s that working out for them? I don’t think anybody can dispute that the draft…[Read more] -
Holladay Ute replied to the topic Craig Smith Fired Today in the forum Basketball (Men) 1 month, 2 weeks ago
Craig Smith was a nice guy and had his strengths. At the end of the day, it just didn’t translate to winning here.
And that’s a shame if what JG said is true (i.e. that Smith was ignoring or resisting help from alumni like Andre Miller).Anyway, the JG interview was very insightful and got me excited about where we can potentially go from…[Read more]

Obviously the turnovers were the key. Right next to that was bench play. When your bench gets outscored 33-4 (wow!), it’s gonna be really hard to win a college game, especially on the road. We did a great job of containing their (by far) best player in Hall. Our bench played horribly. Shot 2-9 w/ 2 assists and 7 turnovers and poor defense. A…[Read more]

Holladay Ute replied to the topic FB Season Ticket time… in the forum Football 1 month, 3 weeks ago
I don’t blame anybody for giving up their tickets. Last year was brutal. And it’s obviously really expensive.
Somebody else is in line to take your place though. They still have a lot of goodwill built up within the fan base. And we’ll probably have a pretty good team in 2025. And it’s not like we were getting blown out in 2024. As painful…[Read more]

Holladay Ute replied to the topic The Runnin' Utes have certainly exceeded my expectations this season in the forum Basketball (Men) 1 month, 3 weeks ago
Spot on. We really needed a couple more of those road games against beatable opponents. And that’s really the difference between us and TDS.
Even in the unlikely scenario we finish 3-2 AND make it to the quarterfinals of the B12 tournament, I think we’d be on the bubble but I don’t think we’d make it in. We’d be 19-14 at that point w/ a weak…[Read more]

Holladay Ute replied to the topic Should Utah have given Coach K one more year? in the forum Basketball (Men) 1 month, 3 weeks ago
This is a good point and I agree w/ it. Although, none of those players transferred until after Coach K was fired. It’s too bad Coach Smith couldn’t convince any of them to stick around. Maybe we could’ve had a year or two of the best of both worlds (good recruiting + decent coaching).
