Holladay Ute replied to the topic Is Hill top contender for DC if KW retires and Scalley is named HC? in the forum Football 3 months, 1 week ago
These are fair points. But…
1) Kalani Sitake isn’t exactly a great HC. He’s been mediocre at best during his entire BYU tenure. And I’d be surprised if the age factor was that important.
2) I agree, they wouldn’t give him the $2M right away, but I bet it’d be more than the $1M he’s making at BYU. And if they really wanted him, I think they’d…[Read more] -

I’m more optimistic, primarily b/c I still believe we have a talented roster.
1) I don’t know the extent of the injuries, but I would hope we get Reid, O’Toole, Tanuvasa, etc. back before BYU.
2) We almost couldn’t have played worse offensively in either of the last two games and, as crazy as it sounds, we could’ve won those games if a few…[Read more] -

I don’t think that’s true Miami. I’m pretty sure he would not hesitate to jump to Utah.
1) Utah can likely pay him quite a bit more money. Scalley is making $2Mish per year, right? From what I’ve read, Jay Hill makes about $1M.
2) Even though BYU is having a better year than us (which has been the case like once every 5+ years for the last two…[Read more] -
Holladay Ute replied to the topic Do we have a head coach problem? in the forum Football 3 months, 1 week ago
Agree w/ this. I’d be excited to see what, if anything, Scalley would do differently than Whitt (mainly on offense, of course).

Holladay Ute replied to the topic Playoffs still attainable? in the forum Football 3 months, 1 week ago
Aside from his ridiculous response about why they didn’t bench Cam, I appreciated what Whittingham said after the loss. At least they know what the main problems are (red zone offense, poor tackling, etc.) and aren’t shying away from that. That’s a positive. The bigger negative is that we’ve known those were problems for weeks and they haven’t…[Read more]

Haha I can’t sleep. No worries man. I have no criticism for people who weren’t confident in tonight and thought this might be the outcome. No issues w/ people having lower expectations. It helps me temper my optimism. I wasn’t loving (and still don’t love) the Cam hate or the calls to fire Whitt. But hey, everyone is entitled to their…[Read more]

He has made some big mistakes in the last couple of years (although we don’t know everything that happened behind the scenes). And he has yet to prove that he can lead a #1 team in the conference (great as the hunter, not as the hunted). But…
It’s also been a unique 1-2 years w/ all the injuries. How many coaches could digest the amount of…[Read more]

If what you were saying ever since 2023 was that we should move on from Cam Rising b/c he’s too injury prone, he won’t come back the same player, etc. then I would say that’s a very reasonable thing to say at any point in time (back then or now). Personally, I still don’t think they made the wrong decision to keep him in the program. Knowing our…[Read more]

Holladay Ute replied to the topic Did fans and the media factor into their decision to go w/ Cam? in the forum Football 3 months, 1 week ago
I think it’s fair to say he thought he gave the team the best chance to win. That’s what competitors think about themselves. And given the criticism that’s been directed his way, I can see how he’d have extra motivation to stay on the field. I don’t fault him for wanting to play. The coaches needed to make the right decision for the team and…[Read more]

Did I say I root for players over the team? No. Actually the opposite. You can read anything I wrote during the game or after about how they made a huge mistake to stick w/ him for as long as they did.
Did I say I expected 2021 vintage Cam Rising to play in this game? No. I said I hoped he would play but that I was planning on Wilson. I did…[Read more]

There’s A LOT to be negative about after that game. Setting all of that aside and leaving it to other posts. What can we be positive about? Please share. Here are some of my thoughts:
1) Even though it’s highly unlikely, there’s still a chance we could make it to the B12 title game. 2022 happened. And it feels like this conference has plenty…[Read more] -

Do they really think Retzlaff is going to win them the conference? Don’t respond. Just give it time, their team will disappoint them in the end. They’re not that good either.

Any competitive advantage they’ve gotten from the secrecy has more than backfired on them. They proved that tonight.

Holladay Ute replied to the topic Did fans and the media factor into their decision to go w/ Cam? in the forum Football 3 months, 1 week ago
This is the kind of thing that causes you to lose the locker room and fan support. It goes w/out saying how poorly they’ve communicated the injury situations w/ Cam. But to do what they did tonight sends a horrible message to Isaac Wilson, the rest of the team, all our fans, and even Cam Rising. Cam was playing w/ half an arm and half a leg!…[Read more]

Holladay Ute started the topic Did fans and the media factor into their decision to go w/ Cam? in the forum Football 3 months, 1 week ago
I admit this sounds stupid. I listened to Whittingham and Bernard after the game though. And their comments made me wonder if all the criticism and frustration from fans and media influenced their decision to play Cam and stick w/ Cam in the 2nd half.
Whittingham basically said the only reason they let Cam play the 2nd half was b/c “Cam told us…[Read more]

How crazy is it that our red zone offense seemingly gets worse each week? We had 7 trips inside their 30 yard line. 19 points.

Holladay Ute replied to the topic Cam Appreciation in the forum Football 3 months, 1 week ago
I appreciate this post. We can’t let this tarnish Cam’s legacy. He’s a legend and an incredible QB when healthy. It’s not his fault that his knee exploded last year or that his finger (and/or knee) got jacked up this year. I don’t know what happened behind the scenes w/ the transparency of his injury. Clearly, he was willing to play all…[Read more]

Holladay Ute replied to the topic Utah at ASU – By the rankings in the forum Football 3 months, 2 weeks ago
One interesting stat (maybe the key stat?) is their rush defense. Rated higher than ours. That’s surprising and worrisome, especially if Wilson is our QB.
