Except the UCLA game isn’t the only game where we’ve seen this kind of play calling.

I am getting an impression from some people on this board that seem to say “We won, so it must’ve been a good strategy.”
Kyle Whittingham is a great coach. I should be like @proudute and give up “trying to understand exactly what he thinks”.
However, it bothers me to no end that the offense has reverted to the ‘run up the middle’ approach and…[Read more]

I still don’t understand why people want to blame the offensive woes on Johnson. Sure, he is limited in some ways; new quarterbacks usually experience a learning curve.
The play calling on offense has been pretty terrible. How can Johnson prove that he can throw the ball if you call ‘run up the middle’ almost every down?

“If Rose was healthy” – Is there a reason for this optimism around Rose? We’ve never even seen him play.

We are all happy to be 4-0.
The team has been pretty lucky. Yes, the defense is fantastic. However, the offense has been terrible.
I think a reasonable fan can see that the teams we have been playing have made a lot of mistakes. When we start playing teams that don’t make mistakes, we better hope Kyle and Company can do better than run up the…[Read more]

I didn’t realize that targeting could be called on a hit that wasn’t against the head. So, that was news to me while watching the game.

This is the way. The only way to beat a stacked box is to run it up the middle every play 😉.

RedRocks replied to the topic The great thing about this defense is in the forum Football 1 year, 3 months ago
This is my biggest concern about the defense. Utah’s pass coverage has looked really bad at times, especially deep. I think as soon as they face a good QB who can throw downfield, Utah will be in trouble if the offense can’t sustain drives and score points.
I am not convinced that Oregon State is that team. I am not saying Utah will for sure win,…[Read more]

4-0 is great, but I disagree with your claims about running the ball.
UCLA knew Utah was going to keep running the ball in the second half. There was nothing creative and no real attempts to mix it up. As a result, UCLA was able to stop Utah and force a punt on every offensive possession in the second half.
I have watched a lot of Utah football…[Read more]

Yeah, not sure what it is about the night games. The day games can feel almost dead by comparison. I am not a fan of mid-day or morning start times.
I prefer the evening start times so the game bridges over into the night, but not the late night. 8:30pm starts are too late.

RedRocks replied to the topic Utah Schedule After Week 4 in the forum Football 1 year, 3 months ago
Ranked at the end of the season makes more sense than ranked at the beginning.
Let say Utah (hypothetically) beat the #1 ranked team in the country in their first game of the season. Then, that #1 ranked team didn’t win a single game the rest of the season.
Would you still tout that as a win over the #1 ranked team?
Preseason and early season…[Read more]

RedRocks replied to the topic CFB Empire Map in the forum Football 1 year, 3 months ago
In a nutshell, each FBS team starts with land equaling all the counties closest to campus (relative to other schools).
When teams play, the winner receives all the land held by the loser; thus growing their territory.
This is why Utah has land in Florida and Utah. Utah didn’t get any land from Baylor because they already lost their land to Texas…[Read more]

He mentioned that ‘post-season’ games don’t count against the 4 game redshirt rule. Is that a new rule for this year?

Like Central Coast Ute mentioned, I believe Kyle was speaking about Curry when he mentioned practice and potentially playing this week.

Is it possible for a player to not participate in the NFL draft and simply sign as a free agent somewhere?
I don’t really follow the NFL draft; sorry if that is perceived as a dumb question. -
RedRocks replied to the topic Some things I would like to see in Waco on Saturday in the forum Football 1 year, 3 months ago
Things I’d like to see:
1A – A win for Utah (of course)
1B – An entertaining game
2 – No ‘prevent’ defense that allows lots of yards late in the game (allowing opposing fans to post pointless stats)
3 – Sustained drives that end in touchdowns for Utah
4 – A pick 6 by a Utah player!
5 – No changing QBs mid series - Load More
