I sound like a broken record, but there is an easy, easy fix.

Stop pretending this isn’t a pro league. Let the players unionize. Create a CBA. Have a salary cap, negotiated salaries, contracts, etc. Every other pro league does this and is successful.

There is such an easy way to fix all this:

The playoffs, whether 12 teams or 14 or 16, take the top 12/14/16 ranked teams.

Easy. BUT, it’s not fair for a one loss G5 to make it in over a 2 loss SEC team. So, how do you fix that? Normalize the schedules. The easiest way to do this is to create one rule:

Boise St went undefeated in 2004. In 2003 and 2002, they went 13-1 and 12-1. Yet no one talked about them. Crickets when it came to Boise St. Why? Because they don’t play anybody. Their SOS was never even close to being strong enough to talk about them breaking the BCS.

And Oregon State. The PAC-12 wanted to get rid of Larry Scott and Oregon State was the remaining holdover that led to a few more years of him being the commissioner.

USC could end up with 3 losses and in the Big 10 title game. They might have the easiest conference schedule out of Ohio State, Michigan, Penn St, Oregon, and Washington.

But their OOC is insane. Typical USC. Schedule up, lose, wonder why they aren’t talked about nationally.
