Thanks!
Thinking ahead for this week, I think the Oregon/Arizona game will be a sneaky good one. I think Oregon brings Herbert back this week and they knock off the Wildcats.

The secondary has been one of the best parts of this year. They were actually super impressive against WSU on saturda

Utah replied to the topic Slow day, SOS in the PAC-12: in the forum Football 7 years, 2 months ago
Tl/dr:
Utah was always a 6 to 8 win team this year. Their schedule is insanely hard which pushes them down to the 6 win side of that range.
So, don’t overreact to the 6 wins this year. Utah is right about where they should be, realistically.

One thing that’s important to remember in Football is SOS and returning OL are the two most important factors. It’s a lot of why the NFL has so much parity regular season wise. The worst teams from last year get the easiest schedule.
In the PAC-12, you have the top three teams from the north and south (WSU, Stanford, UW, USC, AZ, ASU) and the…[Read more]

Utah started the topic Utah Offense, this year vs last year: in the forum Football 7 years, 2 months ago
I was wondering how our offense was progressing from last year. Some important things to remember:
Last year, we had 4 OL and an NFL RB. Also, while Troy was hurt last year, it wasn’t his shoulders, whereas Huntley’s injury affected his throwing more.
So, here goes (last year’s numbers first):
Scoring Offense: 29 pts vs 29 pts.
A compl…[Read more]

They try RPO plays more with Huntley, and the o line struggles to block this play. Watch it, the play most often either ends in getting blown up, or an illegal man downfield penalty, only occasionally Huntley manages to escape.

I can’t defend 53% completion and I agree with making the change to Huntley, but actually I think the current o line functions better with a qb like Williams who stays in the pocket more. They seem to be struggling to block the rpo correctly which is Huntley’s big threat, leaving him too exposed. They have a lot to clean up for next year for sure.

With how he was playing against our first 3 cupcake opponents? I like Tyler and his potential a lot, but I don’t think he beats arguably the best opponents we’ve played just because he looked good against tds. I just don’t think you can replace pac 12 experience. I think you can fairly say that had Tyler played usc/Stanford, he probably has a bet…[Read more]

We’ll have to agree to disagree on that. Huntley’s decision making will assuredly improve with time and experience, but I have zero doubt that Troy doesn’t throw 4 picks against each ASU and wazzu.

This is not true. The Arizona schools were invited to the pac in 1978. ASU won first in 1986, and it took until 1993 for Arizona. So Utah is still on schedule with other schools that have joined. I don’t think it’s a fair comparison for CU because they came to the pac from another p5.

ladyinred replied to the topic Gunther and Hackett in the forum Football 7 years, 2 months ago
I can easily see how Utah beats any one or all of asu, wazzu, or Oregon with williams. Even though Huntley is a more naturally gifted athlete and has a higher ceiling, you can’t replace experience and the resulting better decision making. I can understand why the coaches made the decision they did to play him this year for a payoff in the f…[Read more]

I like Troy Williams but yeah, Gunther especially is waaaay out of line on this issue. I wish they would replace him with Ben Andersen who does the postgame show. He is so much easier to listen to. I like Tom but only as a funny sidekick type.

There is a loud portion of our fanbase who wants Troy.
They are idiots. Gunther is pandering to that portion.
Honestly, anyone who clamors for Troy…just end the conversation, they are clueless.

I’ve had the exact same experience, both in the US and abroad. Mormonism is met with mostly negativity in my experience, and mention of SLC always conjures up mormonism. (Even though SLC is really no longer very Mormon lol).I’d be willing to bet the culture is a bigger factor than the snow.

I agree with you that slc should be easier to recruit to than Pullman and a few other places in the pac 12, but certainly slc is probably still toward the bottom as far as destinations in the pac 12.
I think another problem is that Utah doesn’t pay assistants as highly as other schools. So it’s more difficult for him to find and retain qua…[Read more]
