I’d argue NFL is better for Vaki than Bishop. Vaki has all the measurables. And he did produce at Utah. If I’m a NFL scout, Vaki has a higher ceiling than Bishop. And if Vaki gets to an all star bowl game and produces…then he could rise really fast in the draft.

    Like Kyle Kuzma.

So if I’m Vaki, and I can get in front of scouts with other…[Read more]

  • I agree 100%. I wouldn’t tell Bishop to go to the NFL. Especially with NIL. Get a couple hundred grand from Utah and try to improve your draft status. I think Bishop will be very disappointed come June.

  • Going along with this, the NFL is a democrat’s wet dream:

Salary cap. Even playing field. Every team has an almost equal chance to compete.
Draft picks. The worst team gets the most help.
Unions. Protect the workers and give them a voice.
Healthcare. Take care of the health of your employees so they can perform better.
    Retirement. Let your…[Read more]

  • The NCAA had no way to enforce those rules and regulations. The NCAA isn’t the problem. It’s the lack of enforcement and power that the NCAA has.

Let the NCAA subpoena records. Let them have access to everything. Let them conduct interviews and go through financials and phones, etc. Let them levy punishments.

The problem is if you tell the…[Read more]

  • That’s cool that he has two years remaining. He knew where he was. He knew Utah was going to do everything Utah could to make it so he didn’t see the field again. And that’s ok. He isn’t good enough for Utah. But that doesn’t mean he sucks.

He would be a very, very good G5 QB and a great FCS QB.

Utah Tech would be a great place to be a QB in…[Read more]

  • Yup. College football is a great example of why unabashed, unregulated society doesn’t work. You need rules. You need regulations. You need unions. All those things make life better for the majority of people. You take away those things and the Alabama’s and Ohio State’s do fine, but everyone else suffers.

  • I agree. It’s one of two things:

1 – He’s getting some really, really bad advice.
2 – He doesn’t think another year will get him drafted any higher.

I guess it could be a third: He needs the money. But I’d assume that he could pull an NLI deal that was comparable to the NFL minimum.

I hope he goes to a good situation. Him dropping in the…[Read more]

  • I have to completely agree. College football taps into our tribal instincts. Big time. I don’t think I’d be interested in trying to replicate that with another team. I worked hard at Utah. I stressed and cried and succeeded. There is history for me there.

And to try to replicate that somewhere else…I don’t see it happening.

  • Yes…and no…

I don’t know if comparing music to a team is the same thing. We don’t have our “local” musicians on tv every week.

I think people want to follow their team. I think that is why college football has been so successful for so long. There never was a team that was out of it.

Think back to pre-BCS. Everyone was in a smaller…[Read more]

  • I’m excited to go to the stadium. I’ve never been to a NFL game, but I spent many a Saturday in the Linc watching Temple get their asses kicked. It’s fun to sit in those NFL cathedrals.

  • College football is a great example of why you need regulations in capitalism. Capitalism’s job is to make money. That’s it. It’s not to provide a great product, it’s not to entertain, it’s not get repeat customers. It’s to turn a profit. There is no ethics in capitalism. It has one goal: Make as much money as you can, then move on to the next…[Read more]

  • That’s a great point. Thanks.

  • I have it at a 2…and I’m going. It’s hard to get up for a game when we have no QB and half the team is in the transfer portal. We could win, we could lose by 20. Who knows. I don’t know any of the players…it’s weird.

Between shutting down practices and transfers and NIL…this sport is just different.

  • I think they already do this a lot. At least the schools with money. Have a ton of recruiting coordinators that go through tape and send out texts and letters. They take the tape to the position coaches, “hey, here are the top 50 kids for you.” The position coaches then eval those 50 kids and pick their top ones to recruit. Then then HC comes in…[Read more]

  • Let’s be real. Compared to the NFL, the on field product sucks. It’s no different, skill wise, than the G Leauge or AAA baseball. Maybe even worse. Yet we watch and love it. Why?

1 – It’s local. Traditionally, it was your school. Especially in places like SLC, Provo, Stillwater, etc. You didn’t have a professional team, but you had YOUR football…[Read more]

  • I think you nailed it on the head. I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of these people running the collectives aren’t the historical “sandwich full of $100’s” guys. They are fans who have never seen/controlled/used this type of money. And because of that, they are just throwing it around.

But then again, the more people I meet with money, the more…[Read more]

  • My question is this: Why aren’t the distributors of these NIL deals requiring players to sign contracts?

If a player wants 1 mill per year, why not sign them to a three year, 3 million dollar deal, and you get 2.5 of it after you complete your third year?

It’s out of control, and the players will end up being screwed in the long run, why aren’t…[Read more]

This is where I feel bad for this whole shit show. The players will lose this. Utah won’t. The fans won’t. But players at Matthews’ level…they will. A lot will end up without scholarships, degrees, etc.

And that will affect them for decades.

Once again, the unfettered capitalism proves to be a shit show.

  • What I hate about the left vs right split in this country is the politicians on both sides (but way more on the right, especially lately) won’t allow us to get better.

Is Title IX a good idea? Yup.
Are there parts we can get better at? Yup.

But we can’t do that. We have to scrap all of Title IX because some lefty snowflake came up with the…[Read more]
