It’s not like UCLA has a rich football history. The last two seasons were probably their best in the last 25 years. Almost feels like a cost saving move. Promote a coordinator, cut a few million off of the bill for a few seasons.

I don’t even know that I’d say they are the clear top dog in the pac 12 anymore. I haven’t looked, but in the last 15 or so years, are they even in the top 3?
I get it, they are a blue blood with a lengthy iconic history and are in LA. But other than the Pete Carroll years and maybe one year with Helton, they haven’t done all that much to…[Read more]

J Rocksville replied to the topic Cam Going Pro in the forum Football 1 year ago
That’s an interesting thought. Maybe Cam is smart enough to realize that his best chance to have a career in football (if he wants it), is through coaching. He basically got paid six figures to sit on the sideline and observe some HOF coaches for a year, and can come back and take one more shot at glory while still making 6 figures, before jumping…[Read more]

J Rocksville replied to the topic QB in the forum Football 1 year ago
It’s tough to say. It looks like we should be pretty set up for success next year, but we don’t know who’s coming back, who may transfer out, potential coach changes and other teams can build fast through the portal. Arizona looks like they’ll be solid next year, Colorado should be better, Kansas, OK st, etc etc.
Hopefully our stability works in…[Read more]

J Rocksville replied to the topic Utah doesn't throw to receivers and why it's a bunch of hogwash nonsense in the forum Football 1 year ago
We brought in the Simmons kid from Indiana that was supposed to add a solid, reliable target. He’s been thrown to, and unless we’re over inflating balls in the Pac 12, dude looks like his mitts are full of concrete.
Maybe our QB isn’t throwing very catchable balls, but I think there are plenty of receivers that have 20-30 catches in our system,…[Read more]

J Rocksville replied to the topic Which QB do you take if you are an NFL GM? in the forum Football 1 year ago
Caleb may go #1 simply because of the success other chaos QB’s have had recently, but I think Maye, Ewers, Penix, probably have a better shot of long term success in the NFL.
There is a ton of depth in this QB class, at least a half dozen ahead of Rising and another half dozen or more in his same shoes. That has to impact his decision to stay in…[Read more]

J Rocksville replied to the topic If you had to pick…. in the forum Football 1 year ago
Absolutely rather beat USC. The smugness of USC and Southern Californians to me is no different than being in a room full of vapers. Vapists? Vapists. Whatever, it’s unbearable and they are comically nose-blind to their own obnoxiousness ways.
Oregon has some smugness, but they are also kind of a smaller program that got big in modern times…[Read more]

Vaki seems to get a bunch of special teams snaps too. Might be worth taking him off that duty to give him a chance to rest.

J Rocksville replied to the topic Whitt said that Rising could come back next year. Do we want that? in the forum Football 1 year, 1 month ago
I think you take him back. If the “right” answer this year was to bring in a transfer then cam staying a other year just means we get an extra year to look at the other quarterbacks in the room and bring in a transfer in 25 if necessary ….unless you really believe we would win more with one of our existing qb’s or a transfer next year than we…[Read more]

I’m sure Dodge or whoever the dealer is will be giving a sweet deal to the collective, and I’d further bet that there are pretty strict rules for how far and how hard those trucks can be driven.
But it’s pretty cool anyway.

J Rocksville replied to the topic Why not play the pig farmer if we need the throw game? in the forum Football 1 year, 1 month ago
I’m not a football expert, but my eyeballs saw Bryson Barnes reading things and throwing a half second late, and NJ reading things on time but throwing the ball a bit behind everyone. They both miss open receivers with their tunnel vision.
I don’t know which is better, but if the qb run keeps the line more honest then you’d think that would open…[Read more]

J Rocksville replied to the topic In a perfect world, but it ain't perfect. in the forum Football 1 year, 1 month ago
This is kind of what I’m saying. Say we lose a close game on the road to OSU, without key players. Maybe drop on the road to a top 5 Washington team, then win the CCG when healthy…maybe convincingly. If Florida can keep doing well then we have a pretty good resume and momentum.
Maybe Georgia comes out unscathed from the SEC, but unless Georgia…[Read more]

J Rocksville replied to the topic In a perfect world, but it ain't perfect. in the forum Football 1 year, 1 month ago
I think 80% of Cam’s arm, 20% of his legs, and 100% of his experience/moxie/decision making/leadership is still better than 100% of NJ. Maybe we don’t put up 40+, but with our defense we should be able to get pretty far if we can score 28-35 per game and I think we could do that with an experienced QB that is still somewhat limited.
I think we…[Read more]

I wonder what California kids think about that. On one hand they get to play for the school they might have grown up following, and it’s in a “better” league… But on the other hand there’s a decent chance it’s less competitive in that league and it’s not playing any of the schools they grew up watching their team play.

If he doesn’t have a great shot at the NFL, why not take the medical redshirt and come back to make a couple hundred k in NIL money?

Seems like every year I hope we don’t lose rb’s to the portal for being buried on the depth of chart, but then we’re starting our 3rd and 4th string rb’s in week two ha ha.

J Rocksville replied to the topic WR performance in the forum Football 1 year, 2 months ago
There were a couple drops and a couple balls thrown behind. Enough that if cleaned up would represent an improvement. Not threatening Ohio state, but going in the right direction.
I don’t think it’s run run run pass either. Plays are pretty equally distrubuted and I think I saw we had slightly more passing plays last year. The issue is that most…[Read more]
