I don’t know that “rebuilt” is the right term. It definitely needs a reset, but I think the idea of Utah “culture” needs to remain and somehow find a way to adapt to survive in the modern landscape of college athletics.

I also don’t think any of us fully understand the nature of the U’s NIL deals. It’s easy to assume that the X amount of money that is (or was?) being given to Cam, Brant etc is vacated and therefor available to be given to another athlete at the discretion of the program. I think many of these deals are done outside of the program and belong to that individual player. Cam has a helmet deal, when he’s gone, is that deal just going to automatically go to another Utah player on the roster? Probably not. Collectives have some direction from the program where to allocate money, but also some unknown-to-us portion of the NIL pool is private and outside of those collectives.

I do think the revenue sharing model will help standardize a lot of these payouts to players and hopefully takes a step in the right direction insofar as preventing outside influences from forcing players to play when it’s not in their medical best interest. The flip side is also that even if a program like Utah pledges to spend up to the rev share cap, bigger programs will still have more access to private NIL money to do deals outside of the school rev sharing. I think that’s where we still need to try and hang our hat on culture, development, family, stability etc. For now, a Utah DB that is a 2-3 year starter and star on the field, will still get drafted ahead of a backup at a P2 program that has the measurables, but hasn’t proven themselves on the field. So there is still real value to playing in a 2nd tier P4 program, particularly one with a good reputation and a modern history of consistency and success.

Some of the best and wildest parties I went to in college, 20 years ago, were in provo. It was a strange scene though, because most of the time the girls would put their clothes back on once someone showed up with alcohol ha ha. When they would come north, the lds kids would absolutely rage… Until other lds kids showed up.

I knew a girl from hs that went to byu, 4.0 student, honor roll, student government. Got knocked up by a football player. She was forced to leave school and it pretty much destroyed her life. He was all conference and a local hero…has never paid a dime for that child. Women have always been second class citizens in lds culture, so it’s not surprising.

Jim McMahon was a pretty notorious party guy in college 40 years ago. I recall palpable stress from byu trying to keep that guy under the radar.

I doubt it’s changed much much these days, and I’m sure there are countless similar stories.

Obviously a Rothchild. They pull all the strings in this illusion.

I also am routing for Rose to get a shot. We’ve heard over the years that he has arm talent, and he’s certainly bigger and older. A couple weeks of first team snaps and some tweaks to the scheme and maybe we can field an offense that can put 20-25 points on the board. That’s at least something and would give us a shot against most teams the way our defense usually plays.

Great, we can get embarrassed in front of a bigger audience.

Let’s only hope that we show up renewed and reenergized against BYU and can at least be competitive for the rest of the season.

I personally have some hope that age and time in our program have given Rose a touch more poise, and with a couple weeks of taking snaps and some tweaks to the offense, we can field something approaching respectable. With our defense, we don’t really need to score 35 points. If we can get into the low to mid 20’s we will win more than we lose.

I also think he’ll get another shot, or take a Lane Kiffin route and land at a Georgia or Alabama type program, run their offense for a year or two until a HC job opens up that he likes, and jump.

I swear I saw some quotes from the team that tcu seamed to know what we were going to do every play. At the time it was an indictment of how predictable our offense is, but maybe they really did know the plays.

I see something like 20-13 or 24-13 BYU. I just don’t think we have enough offense to expect more than 1 touchdown, and it’s probably a toss up whether that TD comes from the O or the D. If we can get one from each, and a couple field goals, maybe we have a shot.

With our D, I’d be pretty surprised if we got ran off our own field though. Oooh, the fan base would be on REVOLT!

With how uninspired our play has been, I think it’s going to really p**s off our coaches seeing BYU out Utah us.

If Huard plays in 4 games, does he still have availability for next year?

If so, he should get a shot. If he loses his last season of eligibility, that seems like a messed up thing to do to a player. I don’t think he’d do anything for his career by playing out the last 4 games of a burner season.

I’m the furthest thing from a football expert, but everything about Rose looked bigger/stronger/faster. That’s obviously only a small part of the equation, but his passes had more zip and he didn’t look physically overmatched by everyone around him.

Maybe both of those guys leave, but I’d bet there is a more seasoned qb to be had in the off-season that would come to be the guaranteed starter…or at least a guaranteed open qb competition.
