Jim Vanderhoof started the topic What to expect on defense in the forum Football 1 month, 1 week ago
I have seen little or no blitzing the first three games. Our defense has been pretty vanilla so far. I expect to see Barton and possibly some CB or safety blitzes. Barton is like another D end size wise and can get through a RB block.
We need to get our linebackers more involved in the game plan. Barton has not stepped up his game yet. Front…[Read more]

The intensity level will be much higher for both teams.

Utah rates higher because viewers want to watch Utah play reguardless of fan base. BYU is lower because nobody outside their fan base and church affiliation want to see them play. Point is their viewership is still an advantage with church affiliation.

Nice post DB. Very well stated. Of the 17 million members worldwide they still have a number of viewers to bolster their tv audience especially if they are playing on the road against a team that has a large LDS population in that city. Tv viewing is still an advantage even if those team by church affiliation only watch a couple games a year.

Gundy is more social and shares more opinions and emotions. Whitt is all business and keeps everything internal. Both great coaches different styles.

Face it if BYU wasn’t a church owned school and depended on Provo and surrounding area for support they would still be independent or in the mountain west.
Yes they have their hard core base of students and locals but the fact the LDS religion is world wide gives them a much larger fan base.
BYU football has had no respect nationally since t…[Read more]

Didn’t he play last game? I remember a pass being thrown to him.

The humidity can be a bigger factor. I’ve never been to Stillwater. Is the humidity there high? The Baylor game was similar heat minus the humidity. Depth will play a big role.

I’ll answer that for you Dallas. Game time decision. He’s the alpha dog and we’re obviously a better team when he’s in the game. Next question. I don’t think they ask the question because they know the answer.

I’m old and don’t like the 8:15 start time. You can bet the ranch I’ll be there ready to go. I’ve had this game and the BYU game marked on my calendar since the schedule came out. I’m sure the players are on the same page. Cam let it be known during media day.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Is L. Barton a half step slow, especially laterally? in the forum Football 1 month, 1 week ago
I have thought the same thing Tony. I haven’t seen Barton blitz yet. That was a big part of his game last before he got hurt. Maybe he has been a little precautious early until he feels 100% again.

Get out the pickle juice and mustard. I’d never heard of mustard but a couple weeks ago at my grandson Ute conference game a couple of the boys were cramping and one of the moms had mustard packets. Just when you think you’ve heard it all.

Jim Vanderhoof started the topic Have found our identity after first three games? in the forum Football 1 month, 1 week ago
The age old football adage : “they haven’t found their identity yet”. 2021 was power running game , tight ends and Cam making plays with his feet. Same with 2022. 2023 with Cam out we never found our identity.
2024 after three games our identity looks like “the throw game”. We don’t have a power running game and Cam is limited with running abi…[Read more]

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic I could be wrong, BUT I believe Utah will beat OSU with Wilson at the helm in the forum Football 1 month, 1 week ago
Big difference between a good G5 team on the road in Logan and a good P4 team playing in Stillwater. Cam will be ready and up to the task. Wilson will be there someday.
Getting his first win on the road against an instate rival should do wonders for his confidence.

Good points. The coaches learned a lot in these first 3 games. Even with Wilson getting more reps than Cam it’s clear we can throw the ball. Singer and Parks are big play receivers and our tight ends can get open. With a potent passing attack our RBs can be effective when called upon.

I think these first three games have exposed a few weaknesses. Going 3-0 is the goal. This week will be the true test of what we have on defense and offense.
Our coaches will make some adjustments and have the team ready to go. We developed our backup qb and figured out what our running game will look like. Our “throw game” looks like our str…[Read more]

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic The good and bad in two sentences in the forum Football 1 month, 2 weeks ago
Good: Wilson looked like a P4 QB. Offensive line got a good push the second half. We got Singer-Parks some catches.
Bad: defense missed a lot of tackles. D-line got outplayed in the first half. If we got any injuries.( Otoole) -
Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic BigXII top three teams at the end of the year? in the forum Pac-12 1 month, 2 weeks ago
Still too early to predict. There are several teams that could be there in the end. Who ever stays healthy and grows as a team. As of today:
1. Utes
2. Kansas State
3. Oklahoma St. -
Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Gameday in the forum Football 1 month, 2 weeks ago
Isaac is going to have a great game. Utes will take care of business and move on to OSU.
