I agree yerg with Mitchell coming in on short yardage. The other team knows what’s coming. Seems faking it to Mitchell and using him as decoy might be an option equal to or better than using MB as a decoy.
I still prefer a bigger back in our case maybe a tight end in shotgun. Rising was effective faking the handoff and getting 1 or 2 yrds with h…[Read more]

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Speaking of Analytics in the forum Football 3 months, 3 weeks ago
I’m a little confused on analytics. Can someone explain. So if it’s fourth and 1 on the 10 yard line your chances are better to get the first down and possible touchdown than kick a field goal based on the results of thousands of similar situations. Not taking in to account personnel on either team. Is that correct?

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic OnlyU in the forum Football 3 months, 3 weeks ago
Going by Onlyu observation Cam must have been cleared to play but unable to grip the ball properly and throw it with velocity and accuracy. He doesn’t want to hurt the team and Wilson gives them a better chance to win. Is that considered analytics or just analysis?

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Will the ASU game make or break this season? in the forum Football 3 months, 3 weeks ago
Beating BYU would make it. Losing to ASU would break it. I guess we’ll find out if the team can respond to a bad loss at home.

They need analytics to analyze the analytics.

Game day before the Ok st game reported that Cam had a setback Wednesday at practice and was questionable to start. Remember the betting line dropped 5 points that same day (wed). YMaybe he reinjured it at practice or the setback was he couldn’t throw well enough to start. I don’t why it has to be such a secret.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Whitt's presser notes in the forum Football 3 months, 3 weeks ago
If you were Whitt or Cam wouldn’t you want to let everyone know the extent of the injury and any updates. Much easier than listening to your fanbase bitch all the time about it. We as fans have a right to know the status of our players. Lying about players status doesn’t win games or fans.

I know I’m old but I’m not a fan of the 8:30 games. The weather was perfect last home game and made it more bearable. 5:30-7:00 would be ideal. Come on ESPN give us an early game for once.

Backer either that loss is a blessing in disguise or we just weren’t that good to begin with. We will find out Friday. Whitt likes the back against the wall coaching. One more loss and the season is over. Can’t wait for Friday to see which team comes to play. As Elvis would say “It’s now or never”

This team was built to contend for a playoff spot. Not having Cam is a major blow to team success. What is the mindset going forward? Our backs are against the wall now. Wilson has proven he can win.
Hope week in and week out for Cams return or go all out with whoever is QB and open up the offense and defense. Play with a chip on your shoulder…[Read more]

Analytics don’t take in to consideration of play calling, line blocking or size of your running back. It makes coaching predictable. If you don’t have confidence to get the first down or touchdown on fourth kick the field goal.

Good points bleedsred. Our front four is not applying QB pressure. Hall got a couple pressures blitzing. Last year Barton was a beast blitzing. I don’t remember seeing him pressure the QB at all. Lack of big running back has been missed in the short yardage situations.
ASU has a young mobile QB that can hurt you with his legs and arm. Put p…[Read more]

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic How are we feeling? in the forum Football 3 months, 3 weeks ago
Big question is can the team rally behind Wilson and get a win Friday if Cam is still out? Obviously the coaches and team are fully aware of his situation. He has been practicing and they have witnessed first hand how he is gripping and throwing the ball. Maybe knowing he is actually getting close to playing will inspire them to get through one…[Read more]

I agree Miami. I don’t feel like we’ve played a complete game yet. Defense has been good minus a few plays and offense has played not so good with a few good plays.
As of now it looks like we were overrated. 7 games left to prove otherwise. Cam comes back and gives us a spark the season can still be successful. Lots of pressure on two fingers.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Knowing what we know now, if you were in Whitt's shoes in the forum Football 3 months, 3 weeks ago
Miami I’m sure they looked at options at QB. 2023 was a mistake not finding a portal QB. 2023 was a disaster period. 2024 is a different circumstance. Rising was the right choice to give us the best chance to win and mentor Wilson. We are 4-1 which everyone predicted we would be at this point. 7 games left its a little early to judge on results u…[Read more]

Last year was a disaster any way you look at it. So at the end of last season our options were:
1. Rose who never took a snap and got beat out by Barnes.
2. Wilson an incoming freshman
3. Find a veteran QB in the portal who doesn’t know Ludwig’s offense (Bentley and Brewer) and want 1.7 million Gabriel unknown$$ Cam Ward. Neither and the oth…[Read more] -

Anyone that’s ahead of us in the standings. Things could get interesting as the season progresses. The BYU and ISU games at home are looking much bigger than predicted. The conference is up for grabs.
