Maybe if we expect to lose we will win. Hasn’t worked the other way.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Why I think Whitt will be back for one more year in the forum Football 2 weeks ago
I think he has made up his mind and is playing the “gamesmanship “ card. At the presser he talked about NIL as being the difference between competing at the highest level or being average. We don’t have the financial backing to get to the next level as very few programs do. To get top portal recruits it takes$$$. If he had the deep pockets to tu…[Read more]

I love your optimism Utesrule. I guess we will find out Saturday if the team is still fighting.

Now that I’m 2 generations away for college kids I can see clearly that the younger generation can’t relate to me. As much as I loved and respected my grandparents I figured they were out of touch. Saban was an anomaly as he put players in the NFL and his age was overlooked. The most successful coaches in college and NFL are the younger 1 gen…[Read more]

Glorifying a coach and then firing him is not a good look for your program. I think he is done. This year has been hard on him. He expected to go out with a CFP bid and walk away in the sunset. He needs to do what’s best for the program. He is working side by side with Scalley on the new OC which is a good sign.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Bronco in the forum Football 2 weeks ago
No thanks on Bronco. We need media friendly and more transparency in the program. “gamesmanship” only sets you up for failure with the fans that support the program. Hopefully Scalley has learned from Whitts mistakes. How about simplifying things for the players and coaches. Our guys seem to be over thinking and hesitating instead of just pla…[Read more]

I agree with everything you said Aloha. One thing to consider is Whitt has said he is ready to retire at anytime. Scalley has been hired to replace him. Essentially a lame duck coach. Now a losing season and some chaos in the program. Convincing good players to stay will be crucial. Scalley can promise a change on offense while maintaining the…[Read more]

You hear all the time about college QBs going pro it takes time to learn the pro system and how it works. Isaac’s brother Zach commented on Ludwig’s pro style offense.College style offense is easier to learn or just simplified?

It blew me away. These are high school kids. Maybe a problem with Wilson is he thinking too much?

Anfernee thanks for the breakdown. The offensive scheme comment stuck out with me. He said it takes 2-3 years to fully understand the offense. He has made comments in the past about Rose not fully grasping the offense. So Wilson must be doing a crash coarse to figure out the offense.
Again that’s old school development where it takes 2-3 years t…[Read more]

Maybe a QB-OC combo.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Injuries in the forum Football 2 weeks, 1 day ago
Case in point BYU 9-1 with very few injuries and 5-7 last year with multiple injuries. Hard to replace a 6th year senior QB. Injuries have derailed two seasons. Most of our backups aren’t quite ready to fill in without some drop off. Imagine if Bernard would have gone out.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Money's Not a Problem in the forum Football 2 weeks, 1 day ago
Thanks Miami for the interesting OC pay. If Whitt stays or retires he consults Scalley. We have the money to pay an experienced OC. The offense needs to be designed off the talent you have not the talent you wish you had.
History shows we can recruit RBs and TEs but with the portal there will be disgruntled playmakers that are not getting a…[Read more]

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic QB in the forum Football 2 weeks, 1 day ago
The million dollar question is does Wilson or Rose transfer or do they stay and fight. Wilson has got valuable snaps that freshman rarely get. In hindsight Rose should have been the back up.
Both have room for improvement and if they both stay along with Huard the QB room could be strong. The QB competition will be intense. A new OC and fresh…[Read more]

The zoobs are 9-1. Lucky? Good? A win is a win give them credit. They have a shot at the CFP and that’s everyone’s goal before the season.

Jim Vanderhoof started the topic Pathetic offense in the forum Football 2 weeks, 3 days ago
It’s hard to believe how bad our offense has become. Is it lack of talent or coaching or both?
I’ll take a stab. Lack of confidence and identity ( both). Playing not to lose (coaching). Lack of depth (both). QB that can run for first downs (talent). Bottom line is it’s a combination of both. Whitt and O staff just can’t come up with any answers…[Read more]

I agree Anfernee. College football needs to adapt the NFL model for injuries. One question: how has the gamesmanship worked out for Utah the last two years? Whitt is setting players up for failure. Cam said he was ready to go the first game after he got hurt against Baylor. He wasn’t ready 4 weeks later against ASU and shouldn’t have played.
