Amazing stat NarfUte. You would not expect that from a team that lacks talent. Anyone can shoot and make a free throw. FT % should be a strength not a weakness.

This team has over achieved with the talent level and so many new players. Problem is our high water mark won’t get us a trip to the dance.

I don’t think Smith is capable of recruiting Big12 talent Miami. He is coaching Mountain West caliber players. Other than Carlsen (coach K recruit) I can’t think of any NBA talent on roster in 4 years.
It will take a Dion type hire with deeper NIL pockets to turn things around. If we want to compete in the Big 12 and sell tickets it’s going…[Read more]

Lack of talent and athleticism. Players roles have not been defined causing the variation in minutes played. I could see a complete revamp of the roster again next year.

I will admit I haven’t watched much women’s BB. I get your points about watching teamwork and “old school” fundamentals that the men once practiced. The men’s teams are so athletic and talented they have evolved into a different type of game that us county rec type players can’t relate to. I get so frustrated with the turnovers and lack of pas…[Read more]

Thanks Miami. I’d be curious to know if NIL valuation from incoming freshman is based on their ratings? How many of the new recruits have any chance of being physically and mentally ready to play immediately.

That’s true Miami. A friend of mine has been the PA guy there for 25 years. We go early to eat before games and he knows everyone in town. Students walk from the dorms and a lot of farmers and locals support the team. Really fun environment and salt of the earth people.

I’ve been to several USU games the past 5 years in Logan including Smiths last year. The students fill 30% of the arena and are amazing. Great atmosphere and tough to win there. Martinez (ex Ute) is one of their best players.
Talent is similar to ours. The style of play is different in MW. Other than SD State the defense and athleticism is not e…[Read more]

This team just can’t find any rhythm. A lot of new players and no continuity with the offense or defense. Different combos every game. With the talent and athleticism they have to play smart and mistake free. Yet they continually make turnovers and defensive mistakes. Doesn’t seem like roles have been defined and not having an NBA caliber pla…[Read more]

With a name beginning with Utah it’s hard to get something that rolls off the tongue. I liked the coyotes but that is out. How about the coyote nemesis “road runners “( old cartoon reference ) they don’t play on dirt so how about the “ice runners”.

Let’s see how ASU and the TDS fare this year with the target on their backs. I’d much rather be the underdog and fly under the radar. All the hype last year coupled with our first year in the BIG 12 made us look like pre madonnas. The hate for BYU and ASU will quickly escalate through the conference. I’m sure those games have been circled on the c…[Read more]

For 20 years you forgot they even existed. First they get in the Big12 and have 1 good year in football and big NIl money for basketball and apparently football also. Now they suddenly are national contenders every year. It won’t take long before they become the most hated team and fan base in the conference. Thats been the case in every c…[Read more]

Without the portal and NiL it could take years with a great coach to turn things around. If a couple big donors stepped up like the TDS things could turn much faster. The blue print is out for success in MBB and it mirrors the NBA. 5 athletic players that can switch the pick and roll, pressure the ball and get offensive rebounds. Couple of NBA…[Read more]

Good points. Isn’t there an independent source that sets player values based on position and past performance? If I have 5 employees doing the same job and one makes double the other 4 that creates issues.

Go after LJ Martin and even if you don’t get him they will have to pay up to keep him. Good point steel. As my dad would “give them a taste of their own medicine”

Thanks kindor. I think the tds finally got tired of playing second fiddle. They want to feel relevant again. They can bend the rules and buy their way in to success. As I spend more and more time at the Huntsman cancer hospital I realize how grateful I am that our big boosters (Huntsman and Eccles)spent their fortunes to help all of society and…[Read more]

Not a good sign when your 7 footer is out beyond the arc setting screens. Nobody on this team can get to the basket even being over played. No off ball screens to get some separation for your shooters or just passing. Houston was overplaying the passing lanes and not 1 back door. Our style plays in to their hands. They have more talent and…[Read more]

Hard to watch. We can’t compete with athletic teams. Basketball 101: don’t leave your feet when passing. Plus it’s not illegal to fake a pass and go back door. Either get it down low or put in 5 guys that can spread the court and drive. Make some adjustments!!
