Thanks Minnesota that was my same thoughts as well. Nothing jumped out and grabbed me talent wise other than his size. We need athletes to go with our shooters. Smith’s athleticism was a noticeable difference last year. Our defense and being able finish at the rim is a big need in my opinion. Keba was a great athlete but lacked BB IQ and d…[Read more]

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Honest question: Urban Meyer hate? in the forum Football 5 months, 2 weeks ago
I agree utefan79. He motivated not only the student body forming the MUSS but also mentored Whitt with his attention to details. Mac brought in talent and made Utah competitive. Meyers took the talent and developed it. Meyers put us on the map in college football. Scalley is next in line. We should all be behind him as HC. He is a “Utah Man” all…[Read more]

First of all Meyers is not coming back to Utah. Best case scenario is Scalley head coach and bring back Jay Hill as DC. Keep the assistants in place. Sitake is on his last leg with the “Y” and they will hire Hill as HC. They will not let him go unfortunately for us. If Sitake can’t get to a bowl game this year he and Roderick will be gone. Scall…[Read more]

How good was he really? I only recall seeing him play a couple times. I don’t think he played enough to get a read on his abilities. Bowling Green is a big step down so maybe he realizes it’s a better fit for his talent level. Anyone have inside information on his upside and being able to contribute on next years team?

Nothing makes sense anymore Miami. The landscape of sports in general has changed. Kids used to dream about playing high school sports and a chance at a college scholarship, education and four year experience that will put them on a path for future success. Now all the “Super leagues” and entitlements at a young age have given kids false hope of…[Read more]

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic This is what is so frustrating about the BYU fanbase in the forum They So Poo Poo 5 months, 3 weeks ago
BYU fans are obsessed with everyone from the Big 12 liking them and what a wonderful unique place BYU campus and education is. It makes them feel important to belittle others that don’t stand up to their high standards. It won’t take long for the Big12 to figure it out.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Keiba Keta transfers to TSPP in the forum Basketball (Men) 5 months, 3 weeks ago
I agree Miami. Seems Keba got worse as the season wore on. We will miss his 12-15 minutes of rebounding and blocking shots. I think Lovering can fill that role. I’d rather go with a smaller lineup that can spread the floor with shooters. Our biggest need is a couple of athletic guards that can defend the perimeter and finish at the basket. S…[Read more]

Your points are all valid. Maybe a switch to the Big 12 will spark some interest. It only takes a great coach or player to make a big difference. Look at USU last year. With the portal things can change faster. NIL can’t survive in the long run.

It’s pretty clear Smith is not the answer we were looking for. With that being said the bigger the hole we dig the harder it will be to get out for the next coach. With NIL and portal it’s easier to jump ship than trying to get it back on track.

Looks like a sinking ship again. Last year could have been a springboard to get some butts in the seats again. Road losses and not making the tournament was a big disappointment. Losing Smith and Keba is a big blow to the program along with Burgess jumping ship. Smith has been unable to recruit athletes and keep up with the new style of play. It…[Read more]

I agree MD. We can’t replace him. He knows the system and can get the Madsens some good looks. I love his energy and he plays hard. Pick up a couple of athletes for defense and we could have a decent team. What a joke NIL has become. Coach Smith handed him the keys to the car to run the team and now he wants a nicer car. I don’t blame him for wan…[Read more]

I wish Zach the best. Remember Utah didn’t recruit him. His family and now his brother are die hard Ute fans. As a Bronco fan I’m glad to see him get a fresh start. I’ll 100% be rooting for him.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic TRANSFER PORTAL UPDATE in the forum Football 6 months, 1 week ago
Michigan had superior experienced offense and defensive lines. Plus RBs that could break tackles and break long runs. Last year without JJ we went 3rd and 7 instead of 3rd and 2. I say open up the offense and let Cam score points. The run game can feed off the pass.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic TRANSFER PORTAL UPDATE in the forum Football 6 months, 1 week ago
Yes MD I would love to see a 60-40 pass. We don’t have a dominate RB. Our RBs would be more effective on the outside with screens and swing passes. We have some fast receivers that are capable of big plays. You cant rely on the run in the playoffs. Other than Michigan last year most playoff teams throw more.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic McKay Hillstead is in the portal in the forum Football 6 months, 1 week ago
Rashad’s ego is too big to consider Utah. He would want NIL money that could go to contributing starters. I would wait and see who is left in the portal. Not everyone in the portal is going to get the $$ they want. Most of them will try and sign with G5 or FCS teams for playing time for next year. Utah doesn’t have NIL money for possible 3rd or…[Read more]

Good luck D Smith hope you get your bag$$. Can’t blame him blame the system. It would take me 10 years to earn that money working every day. The biggest wallet wins!! Sounds like real life and capitalism at its finest.

Martinez would be awesome. Doesn’t look like we have the $$$ to get him. Imagine making 500,000 plus as a college student. Nil cap is a must or this will get to out of hand. NIL is not sustainable.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Now spring practice is over – what do you think… in the forum Football 6 months, 2 weeks ago
We don’t have a RB1 like in the past. We do have a bunch of quick hard to tackle in space backs. Rising more than capable of quick throws to the backs. Makes us much more difficult to defend. Rising could rack up some big passing numbers.
