Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Who will be Utah's leading receiver in 2024? in the forum Football 3 months, 3 weeks ago
I agree with you proud Ute on Singer and Kuithe. My hope is we throw the ball downfield more which leads to some big plays.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic I'm hearing good things about Lohner. in the forum Football 3 months, 3 weeks ago
Box out basketball skills could come in handy around the goal line or to pick up a first down. He is used to high pointing the ball. Anyone know his speed?

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Camp Kyle: Day 1 interviews in the forum Football 4 months ago
Thanks MD that was a great review. All the pieces of the puzzle are there we just need to put them together. Offense looks much better than last year and defense equally as good or maybe better. Kicking and punting look strong. Special teams still to be determined but lots of athletes to choose from.
Could be an amazing year for the team and the fans.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Just For Funsies… Cam for Heisman? in the forum Football 4 months ago
I’ll take wins, playoff birth and a healthy Cam over a heisman. Heisman would be icing on the cake. Play to win and let the chips fall. Nice thought Archeryute.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Breakout players in 2024? in the forum Football 4 months ago
Thanks onlyu. Fano struggled some as a freshman at left tackle. Move to right tackle maybe better run blocking and more experienced. Tao will have a breakout at safety which is the hardest position to play on our defense in my opinion.

Well said. I was fortunate to enjoy the 60s and 70s before Utah was discovered. Growth is a negative in Utah at this point. Ask anyone from Denver.

I’m with you Dallas. Glover can’t break through the arm tackles. He looks powerful enough but is more of a 1 yard and a cloud of dust instead of 4 yards.
I’m hoping he is bigger and stronger this year. Defense can’t stack the box with Rising so hopefully he can get past the D line.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic FOOTBALL is almost here! in the forum Football 4 months, 2 weeks ago
More big plays. Rising needs to show the NFL he can throw the ball downfield. Defenses hate the big plays and will defend against them opening up the underneath routes and running game. I can’t wait to see Alford Parks and Singer catching deep balls. We have the weapons and the qb go for it Ludwig.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic TE Question????? in the forum Football 4 months, 2 weeks ago
Lohner could be a sleeper around the end zone. At 6’7 240 hard to guard. Great rebounder so knows how to block out.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Mike Mitchell in the forum Football 4 months, 2 weeks ago
Simple answer durability. He runs extremely hard and takes a lot of hits. Great 3rd down back receiving and blocking. Not built for 20 carries a game. He should play a big role I’m hoping Glover has gotten stronger and can break the arm tackles. He has the body type for more carries. Mitchell sounds like Glover type also.
Hopefully we will be m…[Read more]

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Running Utes Starting Lineup 2024-25: Please fill in the blanks in the forum Basketball (Men) 4 months, 3 weeks ago
I disagree but time will tell. We were too predictable last year and had little depth. Losing Smith is a big loss. We are more athletic and should play more as a team instead of individuals. Defense will be improved, athleticism improved, depth improved and hopefully free throw shooting improved.

Impossible to predict a lineup with so many unknowns. Point guard is crucial in Smith’s offense. We should be more athletic and Lovering and Erickson are veterans that can fill in when needed but should have limited roles. More depth this year and some athletic big men that will help on defense.
Madsen brothers give us shooting and experience. I…[Read more]

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Cam Rising getting under BYU fans' skin. in the forum They So Poo Poo 4 months, 3 weeks ago
Nice post MD. That interview told it all. He is highly motivated for that game. They caught us off guard and just goes to show how much leadership (alpha dog in Whitts term) comes in to play. The team will rally around Cam and the bulletin board material in the BYU locker room will become a side note.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Whitt say RB is biggest question mark. in the forum Football 4 months, 3 weeks ago
Bernard has a hard time staying healthy. He runs extremely hard and takes a lot of big hits. Hopefully Glover has gotten bigger and stronger and can get past the arm tackles. He could be a sleeper. Woods and Mitchell are the X factors. Sounds like Woods is out.
Our receivers look really good and they will force defenses to drop more back in…[Read more]

Sad to hear. He has been through a lot the past couple years personally. G5 schools have taken a beating with nil and transfer portal. I always root for the Aggies and wish them the best.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic My questions going into the 2024 season in the forum Football 5 months ago
All key questions proud Ute. Rising is definitely the key player. Rising is a similar player to Bo Nix. We have similar weapons. Ludwig needs to open things up and spread the field. Can Rising throw the ball downfield with accuracy? If he wants a shot at the NFL he will have to prove it.
Kuithe Singer and Woods are unknowns at this point. Has…[Read more]
