As for the bowl game Dec. 23 I guess we’ll see how many fans show up. I’ve been to all but a couple bowl games in the past 20 years. I have no interest in this one.
High end bowl game yes. High end are after Christmas. I would rather spend time with family. Glad you’re going and supporting the team. Go Utes!!

I agree with rebuilding a team through the portal aka USC BYU Colorado. I’m talking a few portal players to fill immediate needs. Do you think we can recruit a freshman tight end and receiver to come in and make difference.
Rising and Kincaid made a big difference with two players. Our inability to develop receivers and QBs is a need we seem t…[Read more]

Seems they have lost their value. The coaches say they help develop the younger talent. The portal can do that for you. Most development has to do with gaining weight and getting stronger to handle the physicality.
Now you can find guys developed and with game experience. (Kincaid). The portal is the ideal way to build a team. Recruit the best…[Read more]

Bad news. We have not had a quick athletic guard since Smith took over. We will struggle against athletic teams that pressure the ball on defense and can take our guards off the dribble.
This looks like a Majerus team minus Andre Miller. Times have changed since then. You need 5 athletic players to switch on pick and roll.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic No there is 3 left in to 2025 QB room in the forum Football 11 months, 3 weeks ago
Much easier to build depth through the portal. Pick up players with developed size and ability to fill in gaps. Develop the cream of the crop freshman and sophomores. Get rid of your recruiting mistakes. I guess it goes both ways.
As long as you have collective money to bring in proven talent it’s a plus. Unless Vaki leaves we haven’t lost muc…[Read more]

I’m so tired of this. Vaki is playing the system to get more NIL. NIL and portal getting worse every year. Programs are being held hostage by 18-21 year olds.
Salary cap the NIL per team. The NFL does it. Undergrad transfers have to sit out a year. I’m all for players getting some extra cash for their dedication and time. A few getting all the…[Read more]

So this game reminds of the Utah-Oregon CCG a few years ago. We got banged up a little the previous 2 games that we had to win. We came limping in and they were ready to pounce.
Washington peaked earlier and is hanging on. Oregon is peaking now and has passed them.

Wow ticket prices are surprising. I would think the opposite. Playoff game for the CFP and rivalry. Great venue and fun trip outside football. I’ve been to last two CCG games and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Good for you Tony being there to watch a great game.

Why would anyone not want go to BYU? Best coaching staff -best academic school- best fan base- big brand name- honor code to make sure you live an LDS lifestyle- find a wife.
I’m most surprised Cam isn’t going there. I’m also surprised more programs aren’t following their template for success.

I keep hearing dual threat qb mentioned over and over. What is a dual threat? Was NJ a dual threat? He could run but couldn’t pass. Barnes was more of a dual threat than NJ. Ok at both but not great. Nix? Penix? Both could scramble or run for a first down. I would not consider them equal at both. Caleb Williams definitely a dual threat.
QBs t…[Read more]

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Levani Damuni Returning in the forum Football 12 months ago
Damuni is a good player. He improved every game as he learned the defense. Barton Reid Damuni might be the best three combined linebackers in the country. This year proved how valuable depth is during a long season.
If we want to make a playoff run next year we will need everyone to buy in and be ready to play.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic I'm not sure why people are so hard on ludwig concerning QB development in the forum Football 12 months ago
Ludwig runs more of a pro style offense. Zach Wilson met with Ludwig and felt his system would better prepare Isac Wilson for the pros.
We need better WRs. All year we saw the safeties come up for the run. One on one coverage with no help. We can’t get separation. That has to change. Rising coming back should help the run game but we need a c…[Read more]

A little surprised the line is 9.5. Washington has won the last two meetings by 3 both times. This game reminds me of the 2019 CCG with Oregon. We came in to the game beat up and they were ready to take it to us.
I see the same scenario. Washington comes in a little beat up and Oregon is ready to pounce. Washington fading and Oregon peaking.…[Read more]

All good points proud Ute. We go back to the late 60s early 70s with Utah football. The program is completely different in all aspects. I would never dream we would be in this position. It’s been an amazing ride!!

Didn’t TCU make it to the CFP and beat Michigan last year? Oregon barely beat a bad Texas Tech team that lost to BYU. You act like it’s going to be a cake walk. That’s the attitude that upsets the other fan bases. Respect is earned not a given.
If you’re Ohio St Georgia Alabama maybe you have a point. Didn’t we just get humiliated by Arizona?…[Read more]

Cougarboard thinks all the Big 12 fans like them. It makes me laugh. Everyone likes the losers at the bottom of the standings. Winning brings jealousy and dislike for fan bases. I’m sure the SEC favorite fan base is Vanderbilt- least favorite Alabama.
BYU was by far the most hated team in the WAC and MWC !!

We will have our hands full with the Big 12. Road games will be hard even against weaker opponents. With Texas and Oklahoma gone and the expanded playoffs the door is wide open.
The Big 12 was down this year. That can change in a year or two. The Pac 12 was horrible two years ago. BYU went 5-0. This year they would be 0-5.
The Utes will be…[Read more]

100% true Charlie. I’ve been in the tailgating for years. Most leave 10-15 minutes before kickoff. That creates a log jamb at the gates. The early starts made it hard for youth football and soccer families.
I was late 3 games (10-15 minutes before kickoff) and missed kickoff because of the mass of tailgaters
