Good questions! I have been going to Utah games since the 60s with my dad. 70’s going to school. Took my daughters and now my grandkids. It’s been a fun family tradition. Season tickets were cheap and fall weather to tailgate is the best. That’s why I still go because of the above and because it’s a high quality program.
My 4 tickets are well ov…[Read more]

My question to you. Do you think the portal and NIL is good for college football? I personally don’t like it. I’ve had season tickets since the early seventies. My tickets go up every year. 50 50 on renewing.
The ratings are high on tv because it’s free!! If you had to pay for streaming to watch games ratings would drop. Plus the population has g…[Read more]

NIL makes college sports professional. Paying players with free agency (transfer portal). Can you imagine the NFL with no salary cap and a free agency portal. The biggest complaint from scholarship athletes in the past was time commitment and inability to work for spending money.
Instead of paying a few players millions why not give each player…[Read more]

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Struggles on the road in the forum Basketball (Men) 1 year ago
Seems we can’t put together a complete game on the road. Usually it’s turnovers. Arizona it was defense. Today foul shooting. 4-12 Stanford 19-26. 15 point discrepancy. It was nice to see D Smith get more minutes with Worster out. He needs a bigger role when Worster returns. Ericksons minutes need to dry up.

Lyons spending a year at Washington is huge. Best receiver room in the nation. Penix gone. Coach may be leaving. A chance to contribute to another playoff team. Plenty of reasons to transfer.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Bryson Barnes to Utah State in the forum Football 1 year ago
I thought he would go to Utah tech or southern Utah. Surprised by Utah state. We had a big enough sample size to know his limits. Wish him well he was a great teammate and class act.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Ben Carlson in the forum Basketball (Men) 1 year ago
Agree Charlie. He doesn’t play that many minutes. He has not developed any kind of role on offense. Comparing Batin to Carlson who cares? Both should be considered limited role players at best.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic My Impression of this Utah Team after 4 Conference Games in the forum Basketball (Men) 1 year ago
Watching the ASU AU games same story as last few years. Lack of athleticism on defense and lack of adjustments on offense. Once the offense breaks down as the other team adjusts we become stagnate and depend on Woster to create. When is the last time we had a good athletic point guard? Guards that can penetrate and shoot give you the best chance…[Read more]

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic I want WRs that can catch passes and get open in the forum Football 1 year ago
The perfect storm at WR. Coaching philosophy (run first don’t turn it over) scheme ( one primary receiver throw short to TE) lack of talent to overcome the other two.
Unless the philosophy changes and Whitt gives Ludwig the green light to take some shots downfield nothing will change. Tough to recruit good receivers.

With the addition of D. Smith we are now under rated. It’s good to stay under the radar until the pac tournament. Use it as motivation. The committee will ultimately decide our position. It’s fun to even be discussing it.
Hopefully by time the Pac tournament starts we can have our rotation s set and playing our best.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Illusions of 2024 in the forum Football 1 year, 1 month ago
That’s the point we’re not Michigan and it still took three years and a commitment for them to get there. TCU isn’t Michigan and they made it last year. Reality isn’t how many dudes are coming back. Reality is we lost 6 NFL caliber players to the draft and two key starters to the portal. It’s only January?
We got a glimpse of next years tea…[Read more]

I think we all had some grand illusions of 2024. Michigan gave us hope. They made a commitment to all come back for one more year and go all in on a CFP title. The pinnacle of college sports.
We had a similar situation for 2024. A healthy Rising and Kuithe returning along with a defense that would return all starters and another year of…[Read more]

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Bowl Game Perspective in the forum Football 1 year, 1 month ago
I don’t give Ludwig a pass. Part of his job is to develop the QB room. Rising could have been done after last year. What would have been any different? Rose Barnes Johnson competing for starting job. Whitt stating Rose didn’t have a grasp of the offense before the Vegas bowl is puzzling.
With Rose not grasping the offense that left Barnes as the…[Read more]

I couldn’t agree more Homer. I’ve had season tickets in football and basketball since the early 70’s. I lost interest in basketball long ago after Majerus sabotaged the program with bad recruiting before he left. The basketball program has never recovered with bad coaching choices and mediocre teams.
Transfer portal NIL and not knowing who is pl…[Read more]

Well that explains why they didn’t show up to the game. Barnes and Ludwig must have been with them since they didn’t show up either.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Keita scores so easily. 18 points on 8 shots. 11 rebounds. 3 blocks. 2 steals. in the forum Basketball (Men) 1 year, 1 month ago
Washington State was very physical and athletic. Houston played the same with better talent. These type of games are good experience for the tournament. Keita can match up physically with anyone. He takes a lot of pressure off Carlson. Keita and Carlson are a great combination!! Smith can get them the ball. I like our the way our team is coming…[Read more]

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Erickson deserves zero minutes in the forum Basketball (Men) 1 year, 1 month ago
Majerus was the master of putting the pieces together. Each player had a defined role. With D Smith in the fold Erickson and Bajemas roles will change along with Worster. Now it’s up to coach Smith to establish new roles. There should be no hate on any player. We need everyone to buy in and put the team in the best position to win. 8 man r…[Read more]

I couldn’t agree more tanute. Those five are really good. Smith is the spark plug. He is so athletic and gets separation off the dribble. His passing surprised me. I like Worster as a secondary ball handler. Keita is a beast and should play as many minutes as possible.
Barjema and Erickson look lost out there. Exacte could help if healthy. We n…[Read more]

I seriously doubt (possible) he is homesick. He’s been here 3 years. I’m sure it’s been a culture shock to him. Being out of your comfort zone can open more doors down the road.
His past remarks and the way the program honored and embraced the families of TJ and AL showed a true family atmosphere. I’m only speculating but I believe he got a b…[Read more]
