Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Your MBB looks better than expected. Madsen is a heck of a shooter. in the forum Basketball (Men) 1 month ago
Basketball in the Big 12 is definitely an upgrade unlike football. All 16 teams have talent and will be hard to get wins. We look to be at the bottom athletically and talent wise. Hopefully we can stay in some games with our shooting.
BYU has the talent and enough athleticism to win. It will be interesting to see how they can gel as a team. KY…[Read more]

The old school coaches Whitt Gundy Ferentz have been trending in the wrong direction. They’re two generations removed from the incoming players. Young players want younger coaches that can relate. Lansing Smart Riley have the pulse of the new generation of athletes. They have big NIL backing them and have more innovative visions.
BYU gets a y…[Read more]

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic After attending 392 Ute games I’m done! in the forum Football 1 month ago
You bring up a lot of valid points Baron. Each year we are asked to pay more for our seats and donate to NIL. We are considered part of the Ute family. When the game starts we have to figure out who is playing and who isn’t. Closed practices and no media coverage. Leaving everything to speculation from social media.
ESPN and Fox rule the roost. I…[Read more]

I hear you cobraute. You are the epitome of a true Ute fan. You’ve been through all the early lows (70s-80s) middle (90s- 2004) highs (2005-2023). It’s been an amazing journey for us. Going to the Sugar bowl with my dad ( my mom passed away a month before) and brothers was one of the highlights of my life.
There are many of us older Utes on Ute…[Read more]

Maybe if we expect to lose we will win. Hasn’t worked the other way.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Why I think Whitt will be back for one more year in the forum Football 1 month ago
I think he has made up his mind and is playing the “gamesmanship “ card. At the presser he talked about NIL as being the difference between competing at the highest level or being average. We don’t have the financial backing to get to the next level as very few programs do. To get top portal recruits it takes$$$. If he had the deep pockets to tu…[Read more]

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Expanding the Ceiling in the forum Football 1 month ago
Now that I’m 2 generations away for college kids I can see clearly that the younger generation can’t relate to me. As much as I loved and respected my grandparents I figured they were out of touch. Saban was an anomaly as he put players in the NFL and his age was overlooked. The most successful coaches in college and NFL are the younger 1 gen…[Read more]

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic After 20 years of success, this is Whit's first failure of a season in the forum Football 1 month ago
Glorifying a coach and then firing him is not a good look for your program. I think he is done. This year has been hard on him. He expected to go out with a CFP bid and walk away in the sunset. He needs to do what’s best for the program. He is working side by side with Scalley on the new OC which is a good sign.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Bronco in the forum Football 1 month ago
No thanks on Bronco. We need media friendly and more transparency in the program. “gamesmanship” only sets you up for failure with the fans that support the program. Hopefully Scalley has learned from Whitts mistakes. How about simplifying things for the players and coaches. Our guys seem to be over thinking and hesitating instead of just pla…[Read more]

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic After 20 years of success, this is Whit's first failure of a season in the forum Football 1 month ago
I agree with everything you said Aloha. One thing to consider is Whitt has said he is ready to retire at anytime. Scalley has been hired to replace him. Essentially a lame duck coach. Now a losing season and some chaos in the program. Convincing good players to stay will be crucial. Scalley can promise a change on offense while maintaining the…[Read more]

You hear all the time about college QBs going pro it takes time to learn the pro system and how it works. Isaac’s brother Zach commented on Ludwig’s pro style offense.College style offense is easier to learn or just simplified?

It blew me away. These are high school kids. Maybe a problem with Wilson is he thinking too much?

Anfernee thanks for the breakdown. The offensive scheme comment stuck out with me. He said it takes 2-3 years to fully understand the offense. He has made comments in the past about Rose not fully grasping the offense. So Wilson must be doing a crash coarse to figure out the offense.
Again that’s old school development where it takes 2-3 years t…[Read more]

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Injuries in the forum Football 1 month, 1 week ago
Case in point BYU 9-1 with very few injuries and 5-7 last year with multiple injuries. Hard to replace a 6th year senior QB. Injuries have derailed two seasons. Most of our backups aren’t quite ready to fill in without some drop off. Imagine if Bernard would have gone out.
