I agree Anfernee. Ludwig leaving has put Whitt and Scalley in a bad spot. Whitt needs to decide what’s best for the program and culture. He should coach as long as he pleases but having a coach already in place is much different than Harlan having to find someone new.

  • It’s gone from the BYU experience and not paying players to here’s a few million and you only have to deal with our quirky rules for a year or less. Just sayin.

HC being the “closer” is exactly why Whitt should retire. Let Scalley be the closer with a new direction and energy. Ludwig resigning and disgruntled players are a crack in the armor of the culture that has been our best recruiting tool. Scalley is the coach in waiting to continue the culture Whitt has built (which in my opinion is his gre…[Read more]

  • Thanks Tony that’s good news. It will be interesting to see if Whitt steps down how many guys hit the portal or stay with Scalley. With Ludwig gone it’s time for a new era. Next year will be a rebuilding year so let Scalley mold a team with his vision.

High ticket prices late game starts and a bad product on the field. All leave a sour taste in my mouth. I would never boo but I have been disappointed in the whole game experience this year and last year. My 14 year old grandson and his friend who both play and love football fell asleep during the Arizona game. That sums it up for me.

If you’re a recruit and the head coach you want to play for is retiring possibly before you even get there. Head coach in waiting has no HC experience. Lots of seniors leaving and not much talent to build on. This year is the beginning of the end for a few years. Good time to step down and let Scalley start the rebuilding process. I expect lots o…[Read more]

  • I agree with physicality if you have the size. There is a fine line between bulking up to be physical and losing mobility. OLine and Dline has to be physical. I’d take speed and agility over bulk and physical in the linebackers and safeties. Watch Lander make a tackle in space or overrun a play. He is muscle bound and unable to move laterally. L…[Read more]

Maybe it’s just me but it seems like we are playing not to lose. No energy or explosive plays. No special team excitement. The home games this year have been boring and little to get the crowd involved. Reality has over taken expectations. Losing two home games to inferior opponents is unacceptable to me as a season ticket holder.

  • At least we’ll find out if Ludwig is the problem. The players seemed to have lost confidence in the offense. Now playing for pride instead of championship.

  • Hard nosed physical football = more injuries. Not all players are built to play that style and are more prone to getting hurt. Strength and conditioning is a big part of avoiding injuries but they still happen.

  • I’ve been a Ute BB and FB fan since the mid 60’s. From Jack Gardner (milk bottle under his seat) to Majerus. Basketball was king. Sellout crowds and national relevance. Football a .500 winning pct. was a good year and making a bowl game was a special year.

McBride brought back hope for football. Urban took us to the next level (with an inn…[Read more]

  • It seems our pass plays are generic. No different formations (move Singer around) no motion to give the receiver an advantage and pass plays that take too long to develop. The defenses never look confused and know right where to go. TCU had our defense in disarray several times.

We run when we should run and we pass when we should pass. No…[Read more]

  • Man Pedro it would nice if we came out in some different formations and move Singer and Kuithe around in different spots. If they’re blitzing almost every play tight end 5-10 yrd hook. Swing pass to the back in the flat. QB roll out. If every blitz turns in to a 10 yrd gain they might quit blitzing?

Obviously it is a big concern for Whitt and Scalley. Ludwig is taking a hit for the team by resigning. If we don’t turn things around this week and against BYU things could get pretty ugly.

  • Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic You Know…. in the forum Football 1 month ago

Tough task to be a OC with limited talent at NW in a league with talented defenses. We should see his value this week in how he makes adjustments and if IW plays better.

  • I thought the line played good against ASU. Bad against AU and TCU. Both had an extra week to prepare for our potent or should I say putrid offense. Name one play in the last three games where the other team got burned for blitzing. If’s hard to block when the other team knows your plays. Same shifts and motion. Defense just stands there when w…[Read more]

I agree Tony. I didn’t see one adjustment in the offense since the Utah state game. Same plays that take too long to develop. Bernard being depended on to move the ball every series. This “pro style” offense isn’t working.

  • I agree Tednab but it’s not like we don’t have any talent. The players are frustrated and need a change. It’s been two years since our offense last clicked with Cam. Defenses are just teeing off on the QB. If the armchair QBs can see it then surely the coaches can too. I’ll be curious to see the offense this week. Keep Whitt away from the off…[Read more]

  • Plus move guys around in different formations. Short crossing routes to keep Lbs from blitzing every play. Seems the defense is confusing us and we should be confusing them.
