I guess time will tell Lasso. The offense was not working for Wilson. Move Singer around and put him in motion to get open early. More quick passes and screens. Routes are taking too long to develop. Wilson is holding the ball way too long. He looks just like Zach with the Jets.
Unless we make some changes on offense BYU will have no problem…[Read more]

Top four seeds are P4 conference champions. No way Boise can be a top 4 ahead of Big12 champ or any other P4 champ.

We had plenty of reasons for optimism. Two time Rose bowl QB and plenty of weapons. A young but talented O line. Only question on offense was RB. Bernard is the offensive MVP. Defense front seven returning and talented but unproven secondary.
I had the gut feeling and drank the koolaide. I never bought in to the cake walk through the Big 12. All…[Read more]

Backer we haven’t played a complete game yet. Maybe we get on track tonight. Certainly can’t say back on track.

Yes Champ since Covey has been gone kickoff and punt returns have been non existent. We haven’t had that ball hawk safety for a few years picking off passes. Blitzing the QB and getting strip sacks or deflections.
The exact thing BYU is doing to be 6-0. Defense is solid then gives up a big play. Offense has been predictable and conservative w…[Read more]

Getting Reid back on defense (per coach Mac) giving up 200 + rushing against ASU and big plays vs AU. Defense comes to play tonight. We should move the ball on offense TCU defense is not great. We need a big win 2-3 score victory. Go Utes!!

Mac just said Reid was playing. Not sure about OToole

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Ludwig in the forum Football 1 month, 1 week ago
It’s amazing how good Ludwig becomes when he has a good QB. Rising and Huntley offenses scored points and moved the ball consistently. Without Rising and Huntley offenses have no identity and become stagnate.

Who doesn’t? Sanders is an anomaly. Gale Sayers was equally gifted. I was a Packer fan and still rooted for Sayers because he was so fun to watch. In the 80’s I went to a card show and Sayers was signing autographs. He finished and was waiting for his ride to the airport. I was just standing there and he came up and started asking about sports car…[Read more]

I can see what you’re saying about high school recruiting. I base my opinions on results. As pointed out above seems we have had better luck with transfers. With the portal you dont need to depend on high school recruits that aren’t ready to play yet. Look at our roster now. Mitchell Glover Randle Stanley Bernard all high school recruits. Ber…[Read more]

I agree Steel if JJ would have stayed or should I say if we would have payed him to stay we wouldn’t be having this conversation. JJ and Bernard backfield would be unreal. Again damn NIL.

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Complete failure of HS running back recruiting in the forum Football 1 month, 1 week ago
Your comment that’s a lot of talent isn’t true. We had a 230 lb running back but couldn’t pay him enough. If he would have stayed that would be a lot of talent. I thought the addition of Woods and Mitchell adding a few lbs we would be good. Hasn’t panned out. Mitchell is just a freshman so give him the benefit. At this point he is average at best…[Read more]

Not one power back on the list. Bernard has been amazing and exceeded all expectations. Mitchell still early to tell but I don’t see anything that stands out. Stanley is fast but that’s it. Randle Glover Vincent meh and Woods (TBD). For a team that claims to be physical and likes to run the ball and wear defenses down not so good. Throw JJ in wit…[Read more]

I respectfully disagree. You can’t just run over people or avoid all contact. You need both. Sanders was 5’8 200 lbs in college and could avoid hits break arm tackles and run for power if needed. Short powerful legs made it hard to tackle him.
Zach Moss and Booker could do both. Bernard at 200lbs has surprised everyone with his power and abi…[Read more]

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Isaac Wilson vs. Sam Huard not considering Brandon Rose (just a feeling) in the forum Football 1 month, 1 week ago
Rose is the interesting one for me. He has been in the program 3 years and hasn’t taken a snap in a game. Even during last years QB debacle. A freshman beats him out for QB2. Looks like he has a strong arm. Whitts made comments he hasn’t grasp the offense. He can’t run the ten plays Wilson is running? Our coaches are not good QB whisperers or ju…[Read more]

I think the consensus of all the posts. It’s hard to project a high school running back if they are under sized for college. Portal has more developed players but can have more issues. Recruit and fill in when necessary with the portal. If you have $$ the portal can be a good source for a proven commodity. Development = more $$ not loyalty. Ask JJ.

All good points. Some RBs get bigger and stronger after high school. I had a cousin in Denver that was the #1 running back recruit in the old big12. He could have gone to any college out of high school. He went to CU to be close to home. Never played a down. He told me the speed of the defense was unreal and he wasnt big enough to take the hits.…[Read more]

I agree Sal. Whitts one glaring weakness has always been handling the QBs. He finally got his alpha dog with Cam. Wilson doesn’t have Cams toughness but has better QB skills (throwing). IW obviously has a high qb IQ or he would be behind Rose.
Turn him lose and let him make mistakes. It’s part of learning process. Putting in a vanilla offense onl…[Read more]

Good points Champ. Also I see shifts by the TEs but not a lot of motion by the WRs to get a clean break off the line and some separation.Few 3-4 wr sets. Where is Alford, McCain , King and who is playing in the slot?

Jim Vanderhoof replied to the topic Unfortunate trend continues in the forum Football 1 month, 1 week ago
Conservative offense: seems instead of playing to win we play to not lose. 2-3 tight end sets that don’t spread the field and easy to defend. The thinking has been with Wilson keep it simple and don’t make any mistakes and our defense will hold them to 1-2 scores and we can win by running game, short passes and control the clock.
Lou Saban sai…[Read more]
