FWIW, Built Bar is also the main sponsor the Locked On Utes podcast. So they aren’t entirely dedicated to the Dark Side.

I don’t care what songs they play in RES as long as they never, ever play Sweet Caroline again.

      That’s my quarterback!

Thanks for everything, Lisk! Couldn’t think of a better sendoff for you than that second half vs. Wazzu. He’s a true Ute, wish him nothing but the absolute best in the future.

As someone else once said “I’ll believe it when someone other than Markham says it.”

We’ll be playing him in a few years. Hope he does well and wish him all the best. Luckily, DT has never been a huge position of need for us.

      Go Utes!

Tupai and Tafua are upperclassmen, they will have to move on from the program eventually (and sooner rather than later). I don’t see Fillinger or Carlton leaving after 4 games as true freshman. The expectation was not for them to come in and start day one anyway.

I know people might be concerned after seeing Brumfield and Wilmore enter the portal, but this situation is completely different. Those guys were beat out for playing time by a true freshman, they knew their reps were going to be limited going forward. Fillinger and Carlton are in the opposite situation, their reps are only going to increase as time goes on.

Algier had the benefit of a very senior, talented O Line with a lot of chemistry. That will not be the case this year. I wouldn’t be surprised to see his numbers regress. Samson could start at Utah (when he’s healthy).

If this insider info is true and the D-Line is a weakness, that does not bode well for matching up against an experienced Utah O-Line that people seem to be high on this season. If they can’t win their matchups and give Brewer time to pass comfortably (combined with an apparent weakness at corner), it could be a tough night for them.

Though I wouldn’t be surprised if Whitt keeps things vanilla and just runs the ball down their throat all night with the stable of backs we have.

These are great points. Something else to consider is that we are blitzing far less this year and really only rushing 4 on a majority of defensive snaps. We’re doing this to give as much support to our secondary as possible. It makes it harder for the pass rush to get home if we’re not also bringing an LB or CB/Safety on a blitz package.

Sure, the pass rush was going to be down this year. But considering that we lost our all-time sack leader in Anae, and one of the best DT combos we ever had in Fotu/Penisini — I’d say we’re about where we should be right now in this crazy year.

The pass rush will be back.
