  • Onlyu, with the QB room seemingly set after today, what other position groups do you think we are still trying to bolster through the portal?

Reports that Utah contacted Badger once he entered the portal – which if true wouldn’t have happened until after Alford signed – seem to suggest we might be looking for one more WR?

Some of us were s…[Read more]

  • Davon Booth committed to Mississippi State. Bummer. I really hoped he would be a Ute.

McClain has hired an agent for NIL purposes. Also reportedly drawing interest from a number of SEC teams. His plans are still a complete mystery but those two things cause me to think Utah has a remote chance, if any, to land him.

  • Agree 100% with everything you said. Hopefully, though, his experience at CU has taught McClain that despite his unbelievable talent, he can’t just shine anywhere and thus just get the best NIL deal he can get and go wherever. He needs to be coached by someone who turns raw talent into NFL corners.

Would be rad if McClain got a call from Jaylon and Clark.

  • I’m completely ignorant of how the scholarship process works, but from a pure numbers standpoint, I don’t understand how we could possibly be out of scholarships.

We brought in 15 freshman this year, but we graduated and/or lost to the NFL more than that, didn’t we? I know we also hold scholarships for mission kids, but do we really have that…[Read more]

  • Some news on two possible Utah portal targets:

One of the 0n3 reporters has identified Utah as a team to watch on former 5 star CB Cormani McClain (CU transfer). I thought we were out of the running on him last week when he named a half dozen or so official visits and we weren’t on the list. However, it seems we might be back in the running, a…[Read more]

I’m holding out hope for Utah State’s Davon Booth. He’d be an amazing pickup. Garrard was quoted by the DNews as saying that Booth could very well stay in state. I just hope that doesn’t mean TSPP, especially since the Aggie QB just went there.

LockedOn Utes also mentioned the other day that rumor is Utah has their eyes on one more receive…[Read more]

  • That would be a blast; what a fun idea!

  • Very cool Tony, and great photo! Any favorite memories of Bandon you don’t mind sharing?

Thanks as well for the link to your blog; I’ll definitely check that out!

And yes, I too thought it would be fun to talk about something other than Cam or our complete and utter laundry list of injuries for just a bit.

  • Nice Jim! Never been to Bandon but it is very, very high on my list. Which of the 4 was your favorite? And which one did you skip?

When I played Bethpage, one of the guys I was paired up with was wearing a Pacific Dunes sweatshirt so I asked him about Bandon; he also had played 4 of 5 (skipped Old Mac). Definitely had very cool things to say…[Read more]

  • A Gators fan asked UteHub prior to the Florida game about where to golf in Utah, and based on responses it seems like there’s quite a few folks here who like to play. The stars aligned for me yesterday and I got to play Bethpage Black, and I thought I’d share. Tony, I apologize if this should be posted elsewhere but I didn’t quite know where to pu…[Read more]

  • I always thought pro sports would be the best job ever, and then I read Andre Agassi’s book. He hated tennis but had ridiculous natural ability and it was all he knew from an early age. The lifestyle of a pro tennis player, apart from the money, sounds awful. You’re never home, never consistently around anyone other than your training staff and…[Read more]

  • In today’s press conference, Whitt didn’t discuss anyone specifically but said many of the guys who missed the Florida game are day to day. He said he hopes to have at least a few of them back for Baylor.

Reid appears to have been a concussion. Whitt said there are 4 steps to clearing the protocol and returning to the field. He said a week is mor…[Read more]

Welcome to the board, and thanks for stopping by. We all hope you enjoy your visit to SLC and to Rice Eccles. We are thrilled to be hosting the Gators and look forward to a great game.

I’ll leave the stadium questions to my esteemed colleagues; I haven’t lived in Utah for several years and haven’t been to the stadium in quite a long time. As fo…[Read more]

  • He is now the number 1 recruit for the state of Utah, and just barely outside the top 100 nationally.

First time in I don’t know how long (at least a decade?) that the state’s #1 recruit stayed in state. So excited that he’s a Ute!

  • Mikey Matthews got a rating bump, taking him from composite .8867 to .8944. He is now a composite 4-star recruit.

That makes 7 composite four stars in this year’s class; if we can somehow get Lyons to commit (fingers crossed) that would make 8. And three more coming via the portal.

Incredible job by our coaches and staff recruiting this year. E…[Read more]

  • 247 sports just posted a video discussing some high profile recruits, and discussed the state of Utah’s #1 rated player, Tausili Akana.
Both experts agree that Oklahoma is the leader in the clubhouse to sign him, with Texas and LSU also strong candidates, but both also mentioned that Utah is in contention due to a strong late surge. To…[Read more]

  • I don’t think anyone saw that coming. Many, myself included, thought he would almost certainly be a Ute. Perhaps a sign that Utah has landed someone else at TE?
    Good luck to him.

  • Another crystal ball prediction on 247 just posted today on Smith Snowden coming to the Utes, with a 6 (medium) level of certainty. This pushes the U to close to 93% of prognostications for Snowden coming to the U, whereas previously we were at about 91%. Not a huge jump obviously but hopefully a prediction in favor of Utah 24 hours before…[Read more]

  • Not sure if you all have seen, but FiveThirtyEight published today a very interesting analysis of possible candidates for Big Ten expansion.
The analysis was based on athletic performance (with particular emphasis on football), media market, and cultural fit (essentially a composite of AAU status and being the flagship public university of the…[Read more]

  • Dang. Would have loved to have him but it sounds like he’s got a good thing going there. Hope it’s a great situation for him. Also glad he didn’t go to Oregon.
