There’s huge variety in ACL injuries and recoveries. Amari Rodgers tore his on March 26, 2019 while at Clemson, and was back dominating on the field in less than 6 months (167 days after his tear). He played well enough to be drafted early

JK Dobbins tore his ACL in the 2021 preseason (August 28 2021) and then spent the next entire year+…[Read more]

Oh yeah. I post both here and on CougarBoard. Grew up a Utah fan, went to BYU so am interested in both.

Wrote it up there (formatting is generally easier over there), but then thought it could be useful here so copied it over with all the html tags…most of which worked well, but a few needed to be modifed

Gleaned by looking at the 53 man roster projections for each team from various local writers

    Nope, I did. Will update

I don’t think Huntley is really in any danger of losing the backup role. Josh Johnson is clearly not the answer. I’d chalk it up to coachspeak and not wanting to tell Johnson and 2nd year player Anthony Brown that they’re not getting consideration for either of the top 2 spots.

    23. Cameron Rising
    QB, Utah, senior
    Notable 2022 stats: 83.1 QBR, 3,034 yards, 26 TDs
    2022 ranking: 53

Rising’s résumé is not as stellar from a statistical standpoint as that of some of his Pac-12 peers, but his achievements rule them all. After leading the Utes to a Pac-12 title in 2021, he made a…

  • krindor replied to the topic Ticket revenue? in the forum Football 1 year, 5 months ago

Most recent data I have for BYU is 2019-2020 academic year. That year they had $72M in athletics revenue, 26% of which came from ticket sales, meaning $18.7M in ticket sales
    (see https://kslsports.com/437719/byu-revenue-expenses-athletics/)

Meanwhile Utah in that same season had $18.5M in ticket sales. (see…[Read more]

Technically, Arizona is on MST all year. Utah and others are on MST (Mountain Standard Time) half the year and MDT (Mountain Daylight Time) half the year, which is an hour ahead.

Similarly California spends half the year on PST and half in PDT…which is the same time as MST.

So it’s technically correct to say Arizona is on MST the whole…[Read more]

As a true freshman he had 7 catches for 82 yards…which isn’t amazing but is a good start.

The next season he was basically suspended the entire year which is why he didn’t put up numbers.

  • Funny thing is that particular account is a BYU fan just trying to make Utah look bad

I don’t generally subscribe to the “blame everything bad in your fanbase on imposters”…but I’m pretty sure that one actually is. Created right after a discussion on CougarBoard of Utah as the SchrUTES and early comments were clearly over the top

    That said,…[Read more]

There’s going to be more realignment in ~5 or 6 years, and certainly before that happens. For now we’re in a great spot and should be glad…but also know that anyone outside the Power 2 isn’t completely safe.

Best we can do for now is to keep playing well, building a brand and viewership and position ourselves to eventually be competitive for…[Read more]

  • I’ve seen a lot of B1G fans who feel a bit of kindred spirit with Utah – fans of Iowa, Wisconsin, Ohio St (and also apparently Maryland there).

Think it’s a stylistic thing, that Utah plays a more Big Ten style than most other teams outside the Big 10

  • Still hopeful for good news in 3 hours, but not a great sign

  • krindor replied to the topic Odds of making CFP in the forum Football 1 year, 7 months ago

Part of it is honestly an easier path

How many ACC teams do you see there with 10-1 odds or better. Florida St and Clemson. And then UNC way down the line

What about the Big 12? You’ve got Texas and …Oklahoma who is there mostly as a bet on their brand to figure it out

As to the PAC, you have USC, Oregon, Washington, and Utah all in the…[Read more]

  • Yes, that’s me. And I’ll admit that there’s some obnoxious Utah fans out there – especially if you’re looking on Twitter. Utah’s certainly not alone in that regard of course, but my point was more that, whether you like the Utah fanbase or not (most BYU fans don’t, I generally do), it’s inarguable that Utah has an engaged passionate fanbase that…[Read more]

Devin Lloyd was a first rounder just last year, but those (Lotulelei, Bills, Lloyd) are the only three first rounders since Alex Smith

  • For those curious how NCAA gymnastics championships are determined (using some common terms from other sports)

36 teams make the “tournament” with 9 at each location.

The top 16 teams are seeded and spread out

    • one location has 1, 8, 9, 16
    • another has 2, 7, 10, 15
    • another has 3, 6, 11, 14
    • the last has 4, 5, 12, 13

The other 20 teams are…[Read more]

  • Yup, this would be a football-only scheduling agreement. Maybe they’d get access to PAC bowl games (albeit not the conference championship or Rose Bowl – similar to how it works for ND).

So they’d be independent in football with a scheduling agreement that pays well. And then stash the rest of their sports elsewhere.

  • I should clarify this isn’t an argument against SMU (from my end at least). I think Hawaii can make sense this way whether or not other teams are added.

If other teams add value, then we should add them. Hawaii is just unique with the Hawaii rule, so I think it’s possible to take advantage of that in a way that doesn’t apply to others
