krindor replied to the topic Was this the most important season in Utah football history? in the forum Football 2 years, 1 month ago
I lean 2008 as the most important. Not to downplay 2004 at all (first BCS buster and a BCS bowl win is huge), but it was just a matter of who would be first. There’d been lots of one-off teams doing nearly as well and the national consensus was that someone was going to get there at some near point
1998 Tulane was #10
1999 Marshall was #12
2003…[Read more] -

Iowa (like Utah to large extent) benefits from always being at least pretty good. On the other side you’ve got teams like Auburn or Florida St who have hit higher highs…. but also have some pretty ugly depths.

So we’ve seen how Utah is doing in recruiting, on the field and on TV. But what does that all add up to in terms of value. If we’re talking value (and/or conference realignment), those are two important factors – as well as market size
So here’s an image of possible expansion candidates (every ACC, Big 12, PAC school and a few G5s), considering…[Read more] -

OK, so Utah has been very good on the field over the last decade… maybe even better than you thought. But how about drawing a TV audience? What sort of viewership has the team drawn
Truth be told, Utah’s not been at quite the same level there (as compared to on-field performance), so we really need fans to step up. It’s not been bad either,…[Read more] -

Ask and you shall receive. Don’t have the data for Iowa and Oklahoma St unfortunately, but I do happen to have it for TCU, Boise St and BYU

As exciting as recruiting is, it doesn’t mean much if it doesn’t turn into results on the field. So let’s look at how strong Utah has been and how that compares to various teams.
There’s a bunch of methodology at the end, but the basic explanation here is that I looked at every FBS game over the last decade for every P5 team (and selected…[Read more] -

I thought I’d come share some statistics/data on the state of the Utah program. Some of you may have seen this before, but I thought it would be nice to get it in one place here.
I’ve collected a lot of data, so figured I’d break it up. Given the excitement around Recruiting right now, let’s start with that.
So let’s start with the basic…[Read more] -

As a general rule, most in that class haven’t been rated yet. But we start recruiting them long before they get a star rating

I’ve debated sharing a whole slew of stats/data here. Truthfully, a lot of the data would go over better here than there

krindor replied to the topic Having Doubts About Caleb Williams’ Hamstring Injury in the forum Football 2 years, 1 month ago
I think the two have become conflated. He definitely hurt his leg/hamstring in some way at some point. He had the old man walk. And he definitely hurt himself on the long run (cut on his hand).
I think in talking about his injuries, those have just kind of been merged

krindor replied to the topic Many people are suggesting that USC will blow us out. in the forum Football 2 years, 1 month ago
We definitely had a lack of chunk plays against Oregon… but that’s not a new weakness. Our offense is good… but not explosive. Here’s Utah’s rank in
Plays of 10+ yards: #12/131 (excellent; worth noting that USC and Washington are tied for #1)
Plays of 20+ yards: #48/131 (not terrible, but definitely not great – right with USF, Coastal…[Read more] -

All that said, I’d much rather take the harder route and try to play our way in, rather than backing in by enough other teams having to lose.
Consider me a Huskies fan for tonight.

Hmm, if Washington loses (and USC beats Notre Dame), I think we end up in an NY6.
Right now we’re #14, so would need to move up to #11. So that means 3 teams would have to drop behind us. #13 Washington would be one.
Then #8 LSU (after losing today and likely against Georgia as well) would likely put them behind us
Same story on #9 Oregon (if…[Read more]

Hadn’t thought about it…but that probably puts us in almost by default. Generally the committee won’t drop teams too much for losing in a CCG..but I’m guessing we’ll already be right even with Oregon after this week anyway, so then losing to USC would be enough for us to edge ahead

krindor started the topic Washington Motivation in the forum Football 2 years, 1 month ago
Washington motivation shouldn’t be an issue tonight.
They can’t play for the CCG anymore…but they still have a clear path to the Rose Bowl. Whether it’s Oregon or Utah in the CCG, a USC win puts USC in the playoff and probably puts Washington in the Rose Bowl…as long as Washington wins tonight

krindor started the topic Still one miracle scenario to make the conference championship game in the forum Football 2 years, 1 month ago
Scenario: Utah beats Colorado, Oregon St beats Oregon, Washington beats Wazzu, UCLA beats Cal
Teams in Tiebreaker: Oregon, Utah and Washington all with a 7-2 conference record
Tiebreaker 1 (H2H): Skipped because they haven’t all played one another
Tiebreaker 2 (Record against common opponents): They’re all 5-1 against common…[Read more] - Load More
