krindor replied to the topic Moss scored twice in the forum Football 2 years, 4 months ago
I mean, a big reason for the low average was the two 1 yard TD plunges.
By standard measures (45+% of yards required on 1st down, 60% on 2nd, 100% on 3rd/4th), Moss had a 100% success rate. He was also the 2nd RB in, the short yardage back and converted every time near the goal-line (also has a 3 yard TD called back).
He may not be the…[Read more]

krindor replied to the topic Expansion question: in the forum Football 2 years, 5 months ago
Regarding the presence in Mountain Time, he stated that they have presence in all 4 time zones, not that they will have it. That could be referring to the 30k in western Nebraska who are already in the mountain time zone. Or it could be referring to Utah/Colorado.
And being one of the haves could mean B1G. But it could also mean Big 12 or PAC.…[Read more]

6/6, though I’m quite pleased to see the first listed on defense though. Really think a lot depends on him making a leap.

Do people in Houston get really into the University of Houston? No, they’re the 2nd or 3rd most popular team in their city behind UT-Austin and sometimes Texas A&M.
Does Texas Tech extend interest much beyond Lubbock? Not really, I live an hour north and they’re the 2nd or 3rd most popular team there, again behind UT-Austin and sometimes…[Read more]

krindor replied to the topic Utah has 2 options in the forum Football 2 years, 6 months ago
The hard part may be that Option 2 could happen slowly, in pieces. Big 12 TV contract expires the year after PAC12, so it might be an agreement that they’ll come a year after USC/UCLA leave. Which means there’s a chance that this all ends (for now) with a PAC10 anchored by Oregon and Washington and a Big12 with 4 newcomers as planned and nothing…[Read more]

krindor replied to the topic PAC 12 needs to be an aggressor in the forum Pac-12 2 years, 6 months ago
Possibly, but a few issues that make this tough
1) if Oregon and Washington leave, the remaining PAC8 aren’t in a position to poach from even the new Big 12
2) if Oregon and Washington haven’t yet left, but are openly considering it, then teams are going to be hesitant to join a conference in flux.
The key is first playing defense on those two…[Read more]

krindor replied to the topic USA Today, Utes #6, ESPN Power Ranking Utes #4 in the forum Football 2 years, 8 months ago
Utah’s a ball-control, power run offense and will stay that way. Our WR aren’t a huge part of the success. And that works as long as we’re not looking for success at the highest levels.
But if we want to succeed at a higher level, then we have to be able to be effective in every aspect of the game, not just our preferred power run game.…[Read more]

Lloyd obviously.
Ford I think also goes – his versatility will be appealing
Sewell and Covey just don’t have the physical traits teams want so they’re 7th rounders/PFA.
Bam has size/power but lacks technique and is older. I’d put him right on the line as well.
That’s really the story though. Pledger and Tafua are also guys that could be…[Read more]

krindor replied to the topic I need advice for my daughter regarding the anti-LDS reputation the U has in the forum Misc 2 years, 9 months ago
I took Book of Mormon at BYU-Provo Campus and at the U institute – I liked the institute version better. Why? Because it wasn’t for a grade we could focus on learning the things that matter. At the Y, it was just about memorizing dates. Bottom line: Institute classes are more edifying than their counterparts at the BYU schools.
I’ll par…[Read more]

I have limited experience as a Utah student (dual enrollment one semester in HS) so can’t speak too much, but do have a few things worth sharing.
1) My Sister-in-law was a return missionary at Utah and part of an LDS sorority, said there were never any issues.
2) I attended BYU for two years prior to my mission and actually found it a worse…[Read more]

Agree – doubt he’d end up here for a variety of reasons. But being honest, our team is pretty bad – no secret there. So it’s not like we only need one new player and are choosing between Lohner and an elite transfer guy.
First off, it’s tough to think we’ll be the top choice right now for any highly-desired portal guys, and even if we are,…[Read more]

Unfortunately, I think that’s ESPN catering to your listed interests – they tend to modify the front page and photos a fair amount depending on those things. If you use an incognito window, it won’t be him.
That said I’ve seen him as high as 7, lowest I’ve seen is 21. Realistically, he’s going in the teens. I’m a Chargers fan and would love to…[Read more]

Dealing with a 53 man roster and those constraints here’s what I come up with
QB (3): Alex Smith, Scott Mitchell, Tyler Huntley
Notes: Could also include Grosscup over Huntley or only roster 2 QBs if preferredRB (4): Jamal Anderson, Mike Anderson, Devontae Booker, Zach Moss
Notes: Booker and Moss serve as pass-catching options. Charlie Smith…[Read more] -

I did something similar and have a few suggestions…
1. Every team plays 3 WR sets these days. Make another spot for that with starting WR as Smith/Jefferson/Gordon. Same story at CB. The nickelback is a de facto starter.
2. Going by career AV undersells current players and players that were better in shorter periods. Jaylon Johnson…[Read more]

Graham Harrell, his OC at USC went to West Virginia, so that makes sense.
Ole Miss has Lane Kiffin and huge offensive numbers and they’re losing their QB to the NFL (probably in the first round) and don’t have a clear guy to take over

krindor replied to the topic Over-reyling on analytics? (not going for 2) in the forum Football 3 years ago
This is an interesting case where the analytics say to do something specifically because most coaches don’t follow the analytics.
Let’s lay aside all the external factors (QB injury, Ohio State talent level) and take a simplified look at the analytics.
If you go for 1, there’s a (for simplicity) near 100% chance you make it to tie the…[Read more]

The classic example is Jaylon Smith, Notre Dame linebacker.
Basically was seen the way Devin Lloyd is, as a mid first rounder. Got a unanimous first round grade from draft advisory board and then tore his ACL and LCL in the bowl game. Went in the second round and has had decent success but is probably still more known for his injury than for…[Read more]

Honestly, I can’t take too much offense at this
Yeah, a team that hoped to make the College Football Playoff (and was in line to do so until their last game) is disappointed about playing Utah in the Rose Bowl. I get that.
The most negative thing is saying that people don’t care about Utah. Which is harsh, but in comparison to the Ohio…[Read more]
