And BYU looking OK vs Oklahoma and Oklahoma State was a lot more of BYU, one win away from a bowl game, fighting for their lives vs two Oklahoma teams who already had their postseason fates determined and were 100% looking past BYU.
That’s just not true. Oklahoma was 5-2 in conference when they played BYU, well in the mix for the conference…[Read more]

Not at this point. Lots of the better recruits commit later. And there’s a lot of difference between a high 3 star and a low 3 star. More than. There is between a high 3 star and a low 4 star. I’d like to see just about everyone at 87+ (which this guy is)

krindor started the topic Why Britain Covey is the best punt returner in the NFL in the forum Football 4 months, 4 weeks ago
I generally do a preseason analysis of which Utah, BYU, Utah St, Southern Utah etc players are on NFL bubbles or likely to make rosters.
In doing research for that and looking at Covey, I came across this excellent article on why Covey is the best punt returner in the NFL
If you don’t care to read it, here’s the summary
- Britain Covey has an…

BYU only had one game last year on ESPN+. Pretty much nobody had more than 3. I would guess we end up with one or maybe two, but it won’t be a regular thing

They have the right idea to not just do average – but agree they put too much weight on class size.
Here’s the argument against pure average.
Team A signs 4 recruits; two 92s, a 91, and an 88
Team B signs 3 recruits; all of them are 91sIf we look just at the top 3 recruits from both schools, A has a 91.7 average and B a 91 average. But…[Read more]

Ok, looking at it, here’s the conference breakdown, so not as bad as I thought (though the Big 12 teams are generally – with exception of Utah – towards the back
- SEC: 10 teams (including 8 in the top 25)
- B1G: 7 teams (including 6 in the top 25)
- ACC: 8.5 teams (half credit for Notre Dame) (including 5.5 in the top 25)
- Big 12: 7 teams…

Is 7 of the top 40 somehow impressive? Honestly asking. There’s 4 major conferences and a bunch of smaller/weaker conferences. So I’d expect a good number to be 10 or maybe 8 as an average number (accounting for the weaker conferences taking some)

Interesting – he seems really down on Kansas compared to the consensus
He has it kind of tiered out
1. Utah
2/3. Kansas St / Okla St
4/5. Arizona / Iowa St
6. West Virginia
7/8/9. Kansas / TCU / UCF
10/11/12. Baylor / Cincy / Texas Tech
13. Colorado
14. BYU
15. ASU
16. Houston -
krindor replied to the topic Does anyone know why our recruiting in the forum Football 5 months, 1 week ago
It’s already been hit upon that 247 assigns too much value to class size (though it does have some value*) but I’ll add that our 2023 class was stronger than our 2024 class
A big part of that was that the 2023 class was simply stronger in the local area AND Utah cleaned up in-state.
For 2024, there were fewer top prospects in Utah and BYU got…[Read more]

Would be a huge get. We’ve been so stacked at linebacker that we’ve had a lot of great recruits jump ship (Medlock, Chambliss, Tafuga, Tabaracci).
It’s been a position we’ve really recruited well, but a lot of those recruits haven’t ended up long term answers. And I’m not sure it’s a development issue since lots of them have been blocked by…[Read more]

Most every team has a dedicated long snapper. I only know this because I do writeups on the NFL players from every Utah college (Utah, BYU, Utah St, SUU, Weber St, Utah Tech) and one of them is a Utah State grad.

Also will note that we don’t have a Long Snapper or Kick Returner (if we’re treating punt returner abd kick returner separately) currently on an NFL roster.
Georgia (as an example) has every position including, punter, kicker, punt returner, kick returner and long snapper

Currently rostered Utah players, by position
Quarterback
- Tyler Huntley (QB, Browns): Fighting for the QB3 or QB4 role (with DTR). Unlikely to make 53 man roster
Running Back
- Zack Moss (RB, Bengals): Signed as free agent, expected to be the starter and complemented by Chase Brown
- Sione Vaki (RB/S, Lions): Pretty far down the depth chart at…

There’s some sadness about going to the Big 12…but it’s not really directed at the Big 12.
