Interesting – he seems really down on Kansas compared to the consensus

He has it kind of tiered out

    1. Utah
2/3. Kansas St / Okla St
    4/5. Arizona / Iowa St
    6. West Virginia
    7/8/9. Kansas / TCU / UCF
    10/11/12. Baylor / Cincy / Texas Tech
    13. Colorado
    14. BYU
    15. ASU
    16. Houston

  • It’s already been hit upon that 247 assigns too much value to class size (though it does have some value*) but I’ll add that our 2023 class was stronger than our 2024 class

A big part of that was that the 2023 class was simply stronger in the local area AND Utah cleaned up in-state.

For 2024, there were fewer top prospects in Utah and BYU got…[Read more]

  • Would be a huge get. We’ve been so stacked at linebacker that we’ve had a lot of great recruits jump ship (Medlock, Chambliss, Tafuga, Tabaracci).

It’s been a position we’ve really recruited well, but a lot of those recruits haven’t ended up long term answers. And I’m not sure it’s a development issue since lots of them have been blocked by…[Read more]

  • Current two-deep… With the caveat that there’s some positional flexibility, so some of these guys may get very limited minutes

    PG: Miro Little, Hunter Erickson
    SG: Gabe Madsen, Mason Madsen
    SF: Mike Sharavjamts, Jake Wahlin
    PF: Ezra Ausur, Keanu Dawes
    C: Lawson Lovering, Zach Keller

And also doesn’t yet include Caleb Lohner since I’m not…[Read more]

Most every team has a dedicated long snapper. I only know this because I do writeups on the NFL players from every Utah college (Utah, BYU, Utah St, SUU, Weber St, Utah Tech) and one of them is a Utah State grad.

And I agree on Covey – he only had one kick return last year, but there just…[Read more]

Also will note that we don’t have a Long Snapper or Kick Returner (if we’re treating punt returner abd kick returner separately) currently on an NFL roster.

Georgia (as an example) has every position including, punter, kicker, punt returner, kick returner and long snapper

Thanks, that’s what I get for posting on my phone with autocorrect….

Currently rostered Utah players, by position

    Quarterback

    • Tyler Huntley (QB, Browns): Fighting for the QB3 or QB4 role (with DTR). Unlikely to make 53 man roster

    Running Back

    • Zack Moss (RB, Bengals): Signed as free agent, expected to be the starter and complemented by Chase Brown
    • Sione Vaki (RB/S, Lions): Pretty far down the depth chart at…

As a Utah fan, I’m both sad and excited.

There’s some sadness about going to the Big 12…but it’s not really directed at the Big 12.

Imagine you’re in High School, doing well academically, socially, athletically, etc. and then your High School burns down. You and your friends are then spread out to 4 different schools. The new school could…[Read more]

  • Absolutely insane to have them that low. Makes no sense. They were good and bring most everyone back, so should absolutely be a threat

  • The reality is that Utah is more likely to win the conference than any other team… but that doesn’t mean Utah is more likely to win than not win.

If you’re looking at Vegas odds, Utah has the best… but turning those into implied probability gives

    1. Utah 22.7% (+340)
    2. Kansas St 21.7% (+360)
    3. Kansas 13.3% (+650)
    4. Arizona 11.7% (+750)
    5. Texas…

  • I wouldn’t count us out yet. He took his first official visit in April. It was to Ole Miss and he committed there within a few days of that.

But he still has scheduled OVs to Cal, Utah, and Arkansas (and just picked up an offer from Michigan as well).

Ole Miss is clearly the favorite…but I’d guess that it’s not in stone

  • To be fair, a big part of this is because Peyton Manning was before the Internet recruiting rating era. It’s not that he wasn’t rated highly, there’s just no consensus record of it because he was from a different era in HS -> College recruiting.

Same story with the other guys you mentioned – Always for example. There’s only a few QBs who have…[Read more]

  • Sounds like it’s mostly from that ranking/listing Altimore put together a while back…but it’s become an Oroboros at this point.

Altimore ranked teams, and podcasts reacted.
Then over the next month, articles were written (based on Altimore’s rankings) and now podcast are reacting to those articles as if it’s something new or corroborating…[Read more]

  • Agree with everything you’ve said – here’s why I wrote it up the way I did

Jaylen Johnson, I was trying to point out that he’s not just great, but also young

Kincaid is a stud….but his offensive snap share in the last 4 games was 49%, 42%, 55%, 55% for 137 offensive snaps. Dalton Knox had 155 snaps over those same 4 games. Kincaid is clearly…[Read more]

  • Thanks. I knew that and somehow with all the info overload it slipped out. I had thought he’d be UDFA so my brain reverted to that somehow. Knowing he’s drafted, his odds are much higher

  • If you’re curious on BYU, USU, Weber St, Southern Utah, or Utah Tech players, you can also see more in my post on that other site –> https://www.cougarboard.com/board/message.html?id=32997104

Figured I’d rewrite the Utah breakdown here, but didn’t want to redo all of it

  • Clear Starters (10):

    • Marcus Williams (FS, Baltimore): One of the better safeties in the NFL, in the 3rd year of a 5 year/$70M deal. Has missed a few games each of the last two seasons and the cap hits are going up, so safe for this year, but a possible cap hit after next season
    • Jaylon Johnson (CB, Chicago): Had a breakout season and is now…

  • The most impressive thing about this is that it could be much more impressive. This isn’t a list of players who were drafted under Scalley. It doesn’t include (for example) Jonah Elliss, a DE who had Scalley as his DC. It doesn’t even include someone like Jaylon Johnson.

It’s not defensive players under the DC. Or even DBs. This is purely…[Read more]

  • krindor replied to the topic Cole Bishop to the Bills! in the forum Football 8 months ago

It’s philosophy of the Bills GM – he’s more willing than most to go after guys who played out west or on a smaller stage. The Dolphins prefer to grab guys from blue-blood schools and the SEC or B1G (see Waddle, Tua, Chop). Not sure if that has to do with where they played or their pedigree/expectations (higher rated guys with stronger athletic…[Read more]
