As a true freshman he had 7 catches for 82 yards…which isn’t amazing but is a good start.

The next season he was basically suspended the entire year which is why he didn’t put up numbers.

  • Funny thing is that particular account is a BYU fan just trying to make Utah look bad

I don’t generally subscribe to the “blame everything bad in your fanbase on imposters”…but I’m pretty sure that one actually is. Created right after a discussion on CougarBoard of Utah as the SchrUTES and early comments were clearly over the top

    That said,…[Read more]

There’s going to be more realignment in ~5 or 6 years, and certainly before that happens. For now we’re in a great spot and should be glad…but also know that anyone outside the Power 2 isn’t completely safe.

Best we can do for now is to keep playing well, building a brand and viewership and position ourselves to eventually be competitive for…[Read more]

  • I’ve seen a lot of B1G fans who feel a bit of kindred spirit with Utah – fans of Iowa, Wisconsin, Ohio St (and also apparently Maryland there).

Think it’s a stylistic thing, that Utah plays a more Big Ten style than most other teams outside the Big 10

  • Still hopeful for good news in 3 hours, but not a great sign

  • krindor replied to the topic Odds of making CFP in the forum Football 1 year, 3 months ago

Part of it is honestly an easier path

How many ACC teams do you see there with 10-1 odds or better. Florida St and Clemson. And then UNC way down the line

What about the Big 12? You’ve got Texas and …Oklahoma who is there mostly as a bet on their brand to figure it out

As to the PAC, you have USC, Oregon, Washington, and Utah all in the…[Read more]

  • Yes, that’s me. And I’ll admit that there’s some obnoxious Utah fans out there – especially if you’re looking on Twitter. Utah’s certainly not alone in that regard of course, but my point was more that, whether you like the Utah fanbase or not (most BYU fans don’t, I generally do), it’s inarguable that Utah has an engaged passionate fanbase that…[Read more]

Devin Lloyd was a first rounder just last year, but those (Lotulelei, Bills, Lloyd) are the only three first rounders since Alex Smith

  • For those curious how NCAA gymnastics championships are determined (using some common terms from other sports)

36 teams make the “tournament” with 9 at each location.

The top 16 teams are seeded and spread out

    • one location has 1, 8, 9, 16
    • another has 2, 7, 10, 15
    • another has 3, 6, 11, 14
    • the last has 4, 5, 12, 13

The other 20 teams are…[Read more]

  • Yup, this would be a football-only scheduling agreement. Maybe they’d get access to PAC bowl games (albeit not the conference championship or Rose Bowl – similar to how it works for ND).

So they’d be independent in football with a scheduling agreement that pays well. And then stash the rest of their sports elsewhere.

  • I should clarify this isn’t an argument against SMU (from my end at least). I think Hawaii can make sense this way whether or not other teams are added.

If other teams add value, then we should add them. Hawaii is just unique with the Hawaii rule, so I think it’s possible to take advantage of that in a way that doesn’t apply to others

  • Hawaii is an R1 research institution, with similar yearly R&D expenditures as Oregon St

Here’s where they fall by 2021 R&D Expenditures

    1. Washington $1489M (#5 nationally – including non-P5 and non-FBS)
    2. UCLA $1455M (#6 nationally)
    3. Stanford $1274M (#9 nationally)
    4. USC $956M (#28 nationally)
    5. Cal $847M (#32 nationally)
    6. Arizona $770M (#36…

  • `Probably not as a full member, but a “half member” or “associate member” of the conference or a contractual scheduling agreement – whatever language you want to use

Imagine the PAC extends an invitation for the following to Hawaii

Coolest part was all his teammates running over to congratulate and celebrate with him. It’s obvious he’s a loved member of the team

  • krindor replied to the topic New WR coach? in the forum Football 1 year, 7 months ago

Honestly though, I’m willing to give the program the benefit of the doubt with coaching hires – they tend to do pretty well, so my default response when they hire a guy I don’t really know is to assume they know what they’re doing

  • krindor replied to the topic 2023 Schedule Released in the forum Football 1 year, 8 months ago

Lots of great games and marquee matchups – Wilner listed out which games he thinks are the best in each week

The choice game each week, as we see it:

    Sept. 23: UCLA at Utah
    Sept. 30: USC at Colorado
Oct. 7: No marquee game (Washington, Utah and Oregon are idle)
    Oct. 14: Oregon at Washington
    Oct. 21: Utah at USC
    Oct. 28: Oregon at Utah
    Nov. 4:…

Agreed – reality in today’s world is that you can never have too many QBs with portal losses… but the idea of putting more ahead of the other guys isn’t the right choice. We need to be looking for the next guy after Nate Johnson, Brandon Rose, Mack Howard – realizing that as much as we like all 3, the odds of all 3 sticking around aren’t…[Read more]

  • 3. Utah’s rise continues

“Utah will sign an even better recruiting class in 2024 than it has in the current recruiting cycle with the 22nd-ranked class nationally.

“Obviously, the Utes do a great job recruiting within the state. But what helps them is with the consecutive Pac-12 championships and the consecutive Rose Bowl berths, they are going…

  • Looks like he’s quote tweeting a lot about Utah and Pledger seems to be pretty strongly supporting his idea of coming to Utah.

Given his other tweeted options (Tennessee Tech, Abilene Christian, Stephen F Austin) there’s pretty much no doubt Utah would be the top choice for him if we decided we wanted him. That said, there could also be other…[Read more]
