  • It’s worse than that – there’s a possibility that a 2 loss Big 12 champ could get left out. Probably not BYU (currently #14) or Colorado (#16), but if Arizona St (#21) and Army (#19)both were to win out, then even an 11-2 ASU could be in danger

Consider that Army is currently ahead of ASU. And ASU would add two quality wins (#14 BYU, #16…[Read more]

  • Realistically, I think we (barring Wilson transferring out) go into next season with a (declared at least) 4 way battle for starting QB

    • Transfer QB as the likely favorite
    • Brandon Rose as the guy who has looked good in short chances, but mostly hurt
    • Isaac Wilson as the touted recruit that struggled but is hopefully better with some seaso…[Read more]

  • krindor replied to the topic Ike Wilson in the forum Football 4 days, 14 hours ago

I expect (assuming everyone stays, which isn’t a guarantee) a 4 way competition next season.

    Transfer QB as the favorite
Brandon Rose as the guy who has played well in short bits, but has been hurt
Isaac Wilson as the guy who struggled as a freshman, but hopefully put work in the offseason
And then the true freshman also at least getting to be…[Read more]

  • This gets to what rankings are supposed to be. Is it a reflection of resume and accomplishment? Or of which team is the best?

Reality is that if Alabama played BYU, every metric would favor Alabama. They’re probably the better team. But BYU has the better resume based on pulling out a few miracle wins. Which is why BYU is higher.

    And…[Read more]

  • My take from as neutral an observer as I can be

If we’re going letter of the rulebook, there’s 5 penalties in that play. And it was the last one (also the most meaningless one) that hurt Utah

    1. Jatta (#50) has a pretty good hold on the passrusher coming up the middle
    2. A different Utah pass rusher comes and runs the RB over….which is allowed,…

  • krindor replied to the topic Line has moved down to 3 in the forum Football 1 week, 4 days ago

93% of bettors are betting on BYU. And yet the line is moving towards Utah.

Which means one of two things

    1. Lots of small bets on BYU and some massive whales on Utah – basically that the average bet on Utah is 14x larger than the average bet on BYU.

    2. Vegas is exposed and could lose a bunch if BYU covers, but is confident about the outcome…[Read more]

  • krindor replied to the topic Pittman in the forum Football 1 week, 6 days ago

Well, he said it’s Pittman and another WR an dthat between them they’ve combined for 7 receptions.

    Pittman has 6.

So if I’m looking at the guys with exactly 1 catch, it’s Miki Suguturaga (not a WR), Munir McClain (who Ghost says is “definitely still on the team”) and Taeshawn Lyons.

  • As a chaos gremlin, I would love this

Dybantsa takes $6M (mostly from Smith) to come play for BYU. He’s everything he’s reported to be, a Wooden finalist, the obvious #1 pick, and he leads BYU to a #8 finish.

But then, #3 seed BYU is somehow upset by #14 Duquesne in the first round of the NCAA tournament. And shockingly, Kevin Young convinced…[Read more]

*Wilson fumbled, Houston got the ball at the Utah 28
*Utah defense held Houston at the 1
*Utah had a 3 and out, punted for net 21 yards
*Houston got the ball at the Utah 23 and scored a touchdown

Point being, anyone selling that goal-line stand as “And Houston almost had another 7!” is ignoring that it kept Houston in great field position for…[Read more]

  • krindor replied to the topic This could be worse. in the forum Football 3 weeks, 3 days ago

To be fair, one of those “shooting themselves in the foot” ended up a TD for Houston anyway. Yeah, Utah stopped them, but then got no yardage, and had a net 21 yard punt, meaning Houston started inside the Utah 30.

So that one really only delayed the score, more than taking a score away

  • I get that we’re all disappointed with how Cam played (rightly so) and disappointed that the coaches left him in (rightly so) after previously being disappointed that the coaches weren’t playing him.

And there’s blame to go on the defense (especially the rush defense, which was gashed by both Arizona and Arizona St).

But the biggest issue is…[Read more]

  • krindor replied to the topic How good is ASU? in the forum Football 1 month, 1 week ago

In fairness, ASU is 4-1 by virtue of beating the following teams

    • Kansas: 0-5 in FBS play
    • Texas St: 2-2 in FBS play (victories over UTSA and Troy, with a loss to Sam Houston St)
    • Mississippi St: 0-4 in FBS play (including a loss to Toledo)
    • Wyoming: 1-4 in FBS play (beat Air Force, but lost to Idaho and North Texas)

So if we’re worried that…[Read more]

  • After the SMU game, it was still very fair to doubt BYU

And K-State had enough weirdness that there was still some doubt.

But I think it’s time to accept that BYU is for real. Maybe not as good as they’ve looked (see aforementioned weirdness), but definitely a very good team

  • krindor replied to the topic OnlyU in the forum Football 1 month, 3 weeks ago

    I think there’s a few factors

    1. We have a bye week after Arizona. So the upside was more if we could get him last week – two games with Cam if he was ready last week. This week means getting him for one game, whereas sitting him gives him two weeks to heal up.

    2. Isaac Wilson has shown the ability to win a game against quality opponents,…[Read more]

  • Being there and watching our safety lined up 30 yards off the line of scrimmage…yeah, it was frustrating how much space we were giving them.

And then the offense just literally running the ball up the middle three times and then punting on each offensive series.

That said….if the plan was to run clock and not turn the ball over (see what we…[Read more]

  • Agreed that Utah is the better team … But Arizona is so explosive that they’re absolutely dangerous.

Here’s the scenario that scares me

    • Lots of 3 and outs for for the Arizona offense.
    • One sustained drive for a touchdown
    • One big play to McMillan for a touchdown
    • One big play to McMillan where they have to settle for a FG
    • One short field on…

  • krindor replied to the topic let’s talk about rising in the forum Football 2 months ago

Reality is that Wilson is very good and will be stellar in time. But he also threw some ill-advised picks and got bogged down a bit in the red zone.

If Rising is fully healthy (and that’s admittedly a big if), his veteran experience makes the team better. If not, then obviously we’re lucky to have Wilson.

Don’t need to denigrate one to praise…[Read more]
