  • Here is a good way of looking at where we actually rank

It’s generally hard to measure a recruiting class – 247 has their rankings, but frankly put way too much emphasis on class size – especially in a transfer portal era where its not always helpful to fill more spots. And looking at average recruit rating is an improvement over that… but can…[Read more]

  • lost both its starting corners to the portal?

    This is Scooby Davis erasure

To open last season, the starting corners were Zemaiah Vaughn and Kenan Johnson with Snowden as the nickelback.

After Johnson went down with the injury, it was Vaughn on one side with Scooby Davis and Cam Calhoun alternating on the other side. But more starts for…[Read more]

Here’s why the extra money to go to BYU isn’t as obvious a choice as you might think

Last 20 years of Utah DBs (i.e. Snowden’s lifetime)

    • Eric Weddle, 2nd Round Pick, 14 years, 5x All-Pro, 6x Pro Bowl, 115 AV
    • Sean Smith, 2nd Round Pick, 9 years, 47 AV
    • Brice McCain, 6th Round Pick, 9 years, 21 AV
    • Robert Johnson, 5th Round Pick, 2 years, 2…

  • At this point, I’m expecting some WR transfers out in the spring. Right now, Utah has a lot of WR who are coming in with the appeal of available playing time. But at spring practice some are going to stand out and others will fall behind. And there’s no way to get all of them the opportunity they want

    Z Williams, Zip, D Washington, Buchanan,…[Read more]

Honestly, as someone who has feet in both Utah and BYU fandom, I mostly just feel bad for the kid

He was building a legacy and meaning at Utah. And then he left it for the promise of short term monetary gain. And with that he’s given up the feeling of being able to come back beloved anywhere in 20 years as a returning hero….which is worth…[Read more]

  • Honestly, he’s probably a depth play and for the future. He’s probably not ready yet, butif/when Fano declares after this year, it’ll be nice to have someone ready to slide in

There’s a bunch of smoke on Bear Tenney (TE) who is a 2025 HS recruit. I’m guessing it is him

  • krindor replied to the topic Nate Johnson in the forum Football 2 months, 1 week ago

There were hints dropped elsewhere that it’s a QB who left the program more recently than Nate Johnson or Bryson Barnes or Mack Howard….

which means there’s only three potential options

    1. Cam Rising: Could see this, that he comes back for another year. Think someone here mentioned his locker was set back up

    2. Isaac Wilson: I’ve heard a few…[Read more]

100%… which isn’t unusual. I’m active in a few places and I’ll say that in the offseason, I saw a lot of BYU fans whining about the $$$ and NIL and how it was the end of college sports and they weren’t sure if they’d stick around (basically the same thing you see here).

Weirdly, after BYU just gave AJ Dybantsa $7M dollars, there’s a LOT less…[Read more]

  • Yeah, the hard part is 100% getting that top talent to Utah. Add one of the three I mentioned (Myles, Epenesa or Dunn) and this class would look a LOT different by this rating. Pushing every recruit down one slot would be a game changer and have Utah right up at the top (in line with Baylor, though probably still behind Colorado and TCU who are…[Read more]

  • Side Note: to really look at the data, I recommend NOT hitting play and instead just tapping on each # along the bottom to progress it at your own pace and see how rankings change for the depth of the class

  • We’re now in the Big 12. Which means that we most directly have to measure our recruiting against Big 12 teams, not against B1G or SEC teams or even our pre-Big 12-history (which would also have to be adjusted for inflation, but that’s a different story).

And it’s generally hard to measure that – 247 has their rankings, but frankly put way too…[Read more]

  • I think this is an oversimplification to some extent. The Big 12 did well to jump ahead of the PAC. But they also had an easier time doing so.

To be blunt, the Big 12 had a bunch of unwanted leftovers who were going to be happy to take whatever decent deal they could get. If they couldn’t get a deal, then probably at least half that conference…[Read more]

  • Where did you see the ratings for the Utah / Iowa St game? I’ve been looking for that?

  • I’m not sure if Wilson has really regressed, so much as it is that teams have figured out his weakness.

I’m reminded of after the TCU game, someone asked “How is the OL grading well, it seems like there’s always pressure on the QB?” … and the answer is the same

Normally, TCU blitzes 20-something percent of the time. Against Utah, they blitzed…[Read more]

  • It’s worse than that – there’s a possibility that a 2 loss Big 12 champ could get left out. Probably not BYU (currently #14) or Colorado (#16), but if Arizona St (#21) and Army (#19)both were to win out, then even an 11-2 ASU could be in danger

Consider that Army is currently ahead of ASU. And ASU would add two quality wins (#14 BYU, #16…[Read more]

  • Realistically, I think we (barring Wilson transferring out) go into next season with a (declared at least) 4 way battle for starting QB

    • Transfer QB as the likely favorite
    • Brandon Rose as the guy who has looked good in short chances, but mostly hurt
    • Isaac Wilson as the touted recruit that struggled but is hopefully better with some seaso…[Read more]
