I think a lot of fans are feeling this way. Ar some point the NIL madness is going to drive fans away which will kill the sport. Just by the fact we are commenting about this I think we all feel it a little bit.

I wonder if this is one reason why the Utah Hickey Club has been so welcomed to the the community. Everyone knows they are getting paid but those guys play hard every game and don’t have an entitlement attitude.

For me following the UHC has been a breath of fresh air for a sports team to follow.

All Utah needs is an average offense. The defense will continue to do what they do as they always have. With an average offense and Utah’s usual defense they will be competitive. Whittingham is way too competitive to not have a bounce back year this year. Scalley will have the defense ready. Beck and Dampier want to prove they an coach and play at this level. I think we will be surprised. That being said my personal expectation is 7 wins and beat BYU. With that I’ll be happy.

Beat BYU! After last year if they can do that the season will already be better.

With the transfer portal who knows how any of these teams, including Utah, will be next year.

I love the Mammoth and Yeti logos and would be happy with either name. Utah Outlaws just doesn’t roll off the tongue.

Of the choices left I like Mammoth. It fits the color scheme selected and rolls off the tongue better than Outlaws. I have seen jersey mockups on social media that look really cool.

I’d be happy with Utah Hickey Club but I don’t think that will win.

We just need to get used to every player being fair game even in season. The best way we can protest is not watch and spend money but all the emotional investment over the years is tough to walk away from.

You are correct! I heard a podcaster say that one of the adjustments for this team is that they aren’t used to playing in front of so many fans and aren’t used to having so much of the local media around during media sessions. In AZ, ASU’s hockey team got more fans in their shared 5,000 seat arena and the local media didn’t cover them as much. It could be the team puts extra pressure on themselves to perform at home because they feel the support from so many people. They are young and will continue to get better and the future looks bright for the Utah Hockey Club or whatever their name will be.

My hope is that they win a Stanley Cup before the Jazz win an NBA championship.

I love how he said he played at the “Team Down South.” That alone is encouraging that as a coach he is bought in. I am excited to see Beck’s offense and to see Whitt play as an underdog this year. I hope we are pleasantly surprised or maybe after 2024 expectations are so low that it won’t take much to be surprised next year.
