I have watched about 20 minutes of highlights of NU, so I’m pretty sure I’m qualified to comment. I doubt NU will just roll over and die when they see Utah’s size and athleticism. Utah is not Alabama, full of blue-chip recruits. Utah is a lot like NU in a lot of ways.
Thorsen has a cannon of an arm and NU will go downfield. It appears on…[Read more]

I really hope the guy gets over this and maybe next year he can make up for that mistake, but let’s face it, his botched play led directly to 7 points for Washington. That ball was in his hands. Fluke is the wrong word, in my opinion. This was a botched play. The only thing flukey about it was that, after he failed to catch the ball, it…[Read more]

Sometimes I think these guys who take the long-term job at a small school are the smart ones. It’s not the pressure cooker that a P5 school is, mild success will keep you employed, and the salary is still way above what the average schmuck is getting paid.

If you’re a throwing QB, you go to a school that likes to throw the ball. If you’re a great running back, you go to a school that likes to run the ball.
If you’re a great punter…

Seemingly every weekend game the Utes play from here to the end of the season is an afternoon game. Afternoon CBB is stupid. People have things to do. Skiing, kid’s sports leagues, hell, even just a project around the house. Afternoon games are day killers. Basketball is entertainment that should happen in the evening. 6:30 at the earliest.
Let’s…[Read more]

If I was guessing, I’d say Utah fans outnumbered UW fans 2-1. We were pretty loud, and I think would have been very loud had the team made something happen, score-wise.
There’s a clip going around the internets of Kyle going after the ref after the game. What wasn’t shown, apparently, was Kyle going after that ref right after the call and…[Read more]

They have pretty good reason to be cocky. They’ve pretty well owned the Utes. Further, Petersen has owned – like, fucking OWNED – Whitt over the years.

loyter replied to the topic Outside the turnovers, UW played a great game. in the forum Football 6 years ago
That storm was the best thing that could have happened for UW. They are a power run team and WSU is pass-happy. The throw game took a huge hit with a wet ball and a slippery field. God wanted the Huskies to win. Bring on the Huskies and bring on the Husky girls!

The BYU game is literally meaningless. Alamo vs. Holiday vs. Vegas? Who cares.
Rested, uninjured starters going into the Championship game with a chance at the Rose Bowl? That is a no-brainer decision.
The BYU game should be treated like an exhibition. IT MEANS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

loyter replied to the topic Kyle Kuzma lead the team with 37 points tonight in the forum NBA 6 years, 1 month ago
In a loss.
One thing I hate about the NBA is the way the highlights are packaged. Lebron’s two big dunks on opening night were the headline…but his team lost.
The Lakers have the best player in the world and guys who can put up eye-popping stats and highlight reel dunks.
Yet, they are 0-3.

loyter replied to the topic Man there’s a lot of downers… in the forum Football 6 years, 2 months ago
Yep, definitely not the product of one bad game. It’s the product of having read this same book over and over. One offensive touchdown in two games! The best receiving corps we’ve had in a long time…
Add to that the officiating and the replay booth and the oddball targeting enforcement and I can see why people are over it.

loyter replied to the topic possible conference schedule change could screw us over for NCAA bid… in the forum Basketball (Men) 6 years, 5 months ago
I’d be ok with this method if it was based on numbers – like the actual W/L UTE98 posted above.
As it is, it’s a farce.
If you go by overall seedings/standings at the end of last year, which is what I think the article implies, you get:
SC/UCLA 2+3=5/2= 2.5
UA/ASU 1+9=10/2= 5
UT/CO 4+8=12/2= 6
UW/WSU 6+11=17/2= 8.5
UO/OSU 7+10=17/2-…[Read more] -

Big mistake. Utah needs to drop BYU once and for all. There is absolutely nothing to be gained by playing them. They are a waste of time.
I’ll let you in on a little secret: The rivalry is over, Utah won.

A couple of notes on that last play:
1. Collette got that last rebound. It never should have been a jump ball. It should have been a foul and Collette shooting free throws at the other end.
2. The Beavers may have legitimate complaints about calls last night, but nobody in their right mind could complain about that travel. He took at…[Read more]

loyter replied to the topic How many players did Majerus "lose" in any given year? in the forum Basketball (Men) 7 years, 7 months ago
The big difference, to me, with Majerus, was that the players who left were rarely of consequence. The big names always stayed in the program. That is, until Marc Jackson, who left with a flourish of classlessness and publicity.
Before that, it was always bench warmers who left. Even in later years – Markson, Cheney, Drisdom, etc… all…[Read more]

The only thing I really don’t like about this result is that it makes it easier for Gonzaga to get to the Final Four. I hate Gonzaga.
I would like to have seen the AZ-Zags matchup.
