Bill Walton does nothing but add to the enjoyment of the game. He is funny, knowledgeable, interesting, and engaging. Probably the best color guy in the business today.
I have sorely missed him this year.

loyter replied to the topic Larry talks today about some issues with the team in the forum Basketball (Men) 7 years, 9 months ago
It starts at the top. Larry has not done a good job of getting these guys together, and more importantly, getting them prepared for crunch time situations.

You may miss Delon, but if you’ll remember the Utes lost a considerable number of games that came down to the last possession with Delon as well. Larry is great, but his percentage in games that come down to the last possession must be below 25%. He’s really bad. Bad with Delon Wright, bad with Jakob Poeltl, bad with any and all combinations so…[Read more]

loyter replied to the topic Love the Utes always, but that was one of the most pathetic losses EVER in the forum Basketball (Men) 7 years, 9 months ago
Larry has demonstrated a consistent inability to win close games. He is a really poor game coach. And Connor is right there with him – has been all along.
That said, it is not even close to time to look for a new coach. This team is going to be good next year. And Larry is very good at getting talent to come here.
The no-call at the end…[Read more]

xMission over Utopia? I thought xMission provided Utopia?

I’m going to dump Comcast TV right after March Madness and I’m wondering if I can sever all ties with them by switching to Utopia/xMission. It’s roughly the same price, but quite a bit faster (I don’t really do much where I need faster connections – Netflix, UteHub, porn…)
If you’ve tried it or know about it, let me know what you think. Is i…[Read more]

I don’t see the Stanford game as a WTF loss. They are a decent team who was playing at home. Utah had just lost a double overtime game 30 hours before. This game looked like a loss based on the ridiculous schedule, then the two overtimes sealed the deal.
The damage was done Thursday night.

loyter replied to the topic You can point to a dozen critical moments in a double OT game in the forum Basketball (Men) 7 years, 9 months ago
Rooks fouled Collette hard on at least one move to the hoop, Rabb pushed Kuzma twice in the span of 30 seconds going over his back for rebounds… Etc, etc…
Those guys weren’t going to foul out last night. Kuzma and Collette, and out guards all made moves to the basket and Cal’s bigs weren’t backing off. They must just be magical non-foulers.

loyter replied to the topic I AM NOT GIVING UP ON THIS SEASON.. and you shouldn't either… in the forum Basketball (Men) 7 years, 9 months ago
Larry’s teams tend to play exactly to their potential. Rarely a win over a favored team, rarely a loss to an inferior team.

So that call where they looked at the monitor forever at the end of regulation, or overtime… Was I the only one that thought the call there should have been an over-the-back foul on Cal?

I haven’t given up completely on this season yet, but to the question, “When are we going to get over the hump”, look to next year. We lose only Bonam and Bealer from this team. This team will have matured, played together for a full season (plus off-season), and will have likely had some valuable experience in the NIT. Add to that any…[Read more]

Don’t forget the Utes are a super young team in terms of the amount of time they’ve played together as a team. All but two of these players are first timers this year. Oregon has had this nucleus together for quite some time and it shows.

For it to be a rivalry, both teams have to win now and then. So far, we’re just Oregon’s bitch. Over and over and over.
