ParticipantLast night was not about whether shots were falling as much as it was about giving up 49 points it the second half. If Jensen can teach the team to play defense and box out, I might start tuning in again. It’s really impressive that this university has squeezed every single ounce of interest I once had in CBB out of me. Those of you who know me know that I was a diehard as anybody for a lot of years.

ParticipantWell, I guess technically now there’s one.

ParticipantI’m a bit late to this post, but I think you’ll have to come down on your pricing a bit to get people to watch this team.

ParticipantOur go-to joke is, “come on offense, just be mediocre.” The defense always seems to be excellent, so the offense doesn’t even have to do all that much.
I’ll take whichever, but having seen Wilson, I’m leaning toward Dampier. I just hope they didn’t make any promises to Wilson in the re-recruitment process.

ParticipantI still think the suspension should be a minimum of one game, but if the player he injured misses the next 4 games, the suspension should equal the number of games missed by the injured player.

ParticipantWhittingham said something in the post-game interview that was like “this offense is going to be really good.” He knows football and he doesn’t toss out stuff like that all that often.
I don’t think we’ve seen more than about 25% of the plays, and we won’t again this weekend. The less film OSU has to study the better. Cam will likely sit this weekend, so Wilson will get first team prep this week and he’ll be better (keep in mind that he was a high school kid like 4 months ago), they’ll run the ball on 65% of the snaps, and the Utes will win 27-14. Then, the season starts. Until then, there’s no point in worrying about it.
If anyone knows, Whitt does, and he seems VERY confident in the offense…and that’s good enough for me.

ParticipantIt’s simply bad basketball.
Now, don’t get me wrong, this is not a talented basketball team, but some teams overachieve with a weaker roster by playing sound, fundamental basketball. Smith’s teams do just the opposite. They play at their level or below.
Why? Because they don’t do basketball well. The stats show it. Over the last 3 games they have put up some very telling numbers:
Scoring defense – 85.3 ppg
Scoring offense – 60 ppg
Turnovers – 14.6 per game
Free throws – 58%
FG% – 36.7% (vs 47.8% for opponents)It’s really hard to watch. Especially knowing as an old timer what good basketball looks like.
PS I think we’ll see Iowa State fall out of the top ten as the season progresses. They appear to be a bit of a paper tiger.

ParticipantNo way that the move from the PAC to the B12 was a lateral one. The PAC had USC, Oregon, and UW. The B12 has nobody even close to that level. It’s an elite basketball conference and that’s about it.

ParticipantI sure miss having a crafty punt/kick returner.
