I thought we had exactly one good year of genuinely good offense: 2004. My recollection on 2008 was we played just well enough to be in it at the end and BJ was in such command that when he got to run the 2 minute drill he could orchestrate at a very high level. The Alabama game was so shocking because we did just the opposite: we ran the 2 minute…[Read more]

GadValleyUte replied to the topic Who would you like to see on our non-conference schedule? in the forum Football 10 years ago
I would love to have a regular TX school. TCU would be great because of our short conference afiliation, but I don’t think they’d go in for a regular gig. Our fan base would enjoy it m,ore than their’s and they don’t need to come all the way out to Utah to recruit or get a decent opponent, but we need to plant some roots in TX. I think scheduling…[Read more]

GadValleyUte replied to the topic The Drive – not making me feel great about our offensive coaching in the forum Football 10 years ago
He doesn’t want to. I think he loves recruiting and coaching studs at thge most instinctive position and then being a sounding board for the younger guys. Coaching Coaches. Lots of the fun of a coordinator or head coach. None of the BS/pressure. Great job for an old guy with his resume. I’ll take that over not having him.

I like what he says, but his body language makes me appreciate Kyle’s badass calm demeanor, his figiting is distracting.

The fall toward him at his legs wasn’t intentional, but the way he swung his arm was a little suspicious. That said when you watch it in slo-mo after the fact things can look bad/worse than they are. These are young dudes playing hard and competitive who have their actions replayed in Hi-def before the world. Individual actions like that deserve a…[Read more]

I hope Poeltl really shines as a dominant post presence this year. I think that helps come Tourney time because shooting in those domes is really terrible. I have high hopes for this team.

Eighth Habit took me a minute to get. Have I been living under a rock? I like it as a nickname. Although there is a book called the Eighth Habit, maybe he’s the 9th Habit? Or maybe I’ll just go with what has been established

GadValleyUte replied to the topic Which Pac12 team makes CFP? in the forum Football 10 years ago
Could be. So far it looks like the P12 might just beat itself up and we didn’t do enough in the OOC side to convince folks a 2 loss P12 champ is worth a spot in the CFP. Besides ND games are there any good OOC games left in conference? Maybe if both Stanford and Sc take the Irish to the woodshed then a 2 loss team gets in.

GadValleyUte replied to the topic 3 games in and this is how I see this years team vs last years in the forum Football 10 years ago
That’s how I feel. I was hoping (like always) with a little continuity at OC and a senior QB and stud RB we’d see something more out of the offense this year. I have been disappointed and that’s kinda soured the 3-0 start. Maybe we’ll “open up the playbook” this week. There’s that perpetual hope. We’ve just been holding back not wanting to tip our…[Read more]

^^^^^This^^^^^
Its hard to sack the QB when the RB always has the ball.
O-line is a really tough gig as far as I can tell and Run-blocking and pass protection are very different and it takes a really special group of guys to do both well at the same time. I remember the 2003 season and noticing how a bunch of guys recruited by Mac had a tough…[Read more] -

@utestuckinseattle nailed it. BYU talk is gonna come up we are scheduled to play them in football the next 5 years and I think we have open ended agreements in all other sports. Better have a special place for talk not directly related to our on-field interactions with them, so folks who want no part don’t have to see it. Same for religion and…[Read more]
