Matthew Thomas Castleton replied to the topic 2009 Poinsettia Bowl in the forum Football 5 years, 11 months ago
This game reminds me of the 2007 Poinsettia Bowl actually. Remember that game? Well, anyway, Utah beat Navy 35-32 to finish 9-4 in a year where they lost their starting quarterback and running back in the same season. They also lost their final game before the bowl season. This year’s Utah team and that year’s team are eerily similar. And the next…[Read more]

Utah also played Northern Illinois if you forget

What’s crazier though is that this team is likely going to win their next two games (against Florida A&M and Northern Arizona). That would put them make them 6-5, leading into their final non-conference game with currently undefeated Nevada. They’ve got an NCAA Tournament-level non-conference schedule with an NIT or worse-level team.

Matthew Thomas Castleton replied to the topic Anyone else hear rumors that Jalen Hurts in town meeting with Utah coaches? in the forum Football 5 years, 11 months ago
He’s going to probably transfer somewhere where he has a clear-cut chance to come in and be the stater. It’ll be somewhere like Washington (senior QB) or Oregon (who might lose their starter to the draft). However, that being said, it wouldn’t be the first time that an Alabama quarterback would transfer to Utah.

I TOO had a layover in Detroit back in 2009. I could give tours of that airport

Matthew Thomas Castleton replied to the topic Remember Jack Sears? in the forum Football 5 years, 11 months ago
Well, you’d have to take tons of AP classes to do that. It’s not like they’re easy or something. In comparison I mean. And you only get college credit for them if you pass the test. Some kids don’t even take the AP test. If you don’t pass, you don’t get college credit.

And play Shyne on third and fourth down in short yardage situations. He’s just effective at gaining those types of yards consistently.

Matthew Thomas Castleton replied to the topic Looks like we have had a pretty heated rivalry with NW over the last century! in the forum Football 5 years, 11 months ago
Utah literally hasn’t played Northwestern in my lifetime (I wasn’t born until 1986: five years after they last played the Wildcats). Let’s hope the football team does better against Northwestern than our basketball team did in the Wooden Legacy Tournament (we lost 79-57).

Matthew Thomas Castleton replied to the topic I'm pleased with the Holiday Bowl, BUT in the forum Football 5 years, 11 months ago
It’s because the current Sugar Bowl is the SEC/Big 12 equivalent of the Rose Bowl. It’s a contract bowl now. The SEC and Big 12 signed a deal for their conference champions to appear in that bowl unless they’re in the College Football Playoffs. If they are, the Sugar Bowl selects the highest ranked team from either conference as a replacement.…[Read more]

Plus he can still run and stuff even if he’s recovering from a collarbone injury. Doesn’t affect his legs.

Matthew Thomas Castleton replied to the topic Welp, we just watched the championship game in the forum Football 5 years, 11 months ago
I highly doubt that was the “championship game.” You know that both Clemson AND Notre Dame are undefeated right? Both of them are better teams than Georgia. I think both of Oklahoma and Ohio State are better too.

Matthew Thomas Castleton replied to the topic I hope Wazzu makes a NY6 bowl in the forum Football 5 years, 11 months ago
They won’t get there. None of the teams ahead of them who needed to lose lost. Wazzu is probably headed to the Alamo Bowl, which would put Utah in the Holiday Bowl, Stanford in the Redbox Bowl, Oregon in the Sun Bowl, Arizona State in the Las Vegas Bowl, and California in the Cheez-It Bowl.

Matthew Thomas Castleton replied to the topic Playoff in the forum Football 5 years, 11 months ago
It’ll be Ohio State. Their loss to Purdue is going to kill them. Oklahoma will be the one who gets the final spot

Matthew Thomas Castleton replied to the topic Northwestern smelling roses? in the forum Football 5 years, 11 months ago
No, because Ohio State isn’t going to make the playoffs. It’s going to be Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma. Ohio State will be 5 and Georgia will be 6.

Matthew Thomas Castleton replied to the topic If Huntley is healthy in the forum Football 5 years, 11 months ago
Well, ya know, Huntley ALSO struggled against Washington. So have a lot of other teams. Hell, Washington State and their juggernaut offense only put up 15 points against Washington. Washington has an elite defense, and their numbers prove it. They’re the only team in the Pac-12 ahead of Utah in scoring defense. Perhaps toy should cut the guys…[Read more]

Matthew Thomas Castleton replied to the topic You know as mad as I am with some of Utah’s coaches in the forum Football 5 years, 11 months ago
Unfortunately, it was really just one mistake that cost Utah (the crazy pick six). Things happen. Both teams have crazy good defenses.
