Minnesota Ute

  • Hard to second guess that decision… one of the most well known and accomplished coaches in basketball in one of the most consistently excellent basketball conferences with the some of the best east coast media exposure, or…

sigh. I hope it works out for him.

  • I personally had a lot of heartburn for the money that college sports was generating on the backs of adults who couldn’t share in the profit. That said, professional sports realized long ago that contracts mattered for stability of the league and gradually along the way the players bargained for free agency to provide a balance.
    The problem…[Read more]

  • I guess I just don’t see it. My prediction is Pope washes out at Kentucky fast. Their expectations are off the charts and I can’t see an Ex-BYU Coach being dirty enough to fulfill their lust, nor the right fit to coach the semi-pro level of athletes that Kentucky gets that certainly was not what he had at BYU.

As for the incoming coach, totally…[Read more]

Here is my only Devil’s advocate argument, the NIT is not the 67th best team in the land. You have to exclude many automatic qualifiers and instead compare Utah against many mid-tier teams that get in from ACC Big East, B10 etc, To me, the good news (if we can win one or two roadies to end the year), is an acknowledgement that we should have been…[Read more]

Hate to say it, but Pele lost that game for them. His defense was so bad my wife was calling him out. On top of that he couldn’t throw a brick in the ocean.

  • It was the AZ game. Pretty important game to have such a conflict of interest.

  • Yeah we always listen to ESPN700 app synced with TV, and Bill was right on him even before he T’d up Smith.
He was the same guy that screwed us in one of our home games coming down the stretch. Can’t remember now which, but it was the one where the other team was in double bonus in first half with only a handful of fouls themselves.

  • His head just didn’t seem in it the last couple of games. I hope that’s not what’s going on because him and Lovering could be really good together next year. 🙁

  • Every game I’ve tuned into this year, they lost. So I was committed to not tuning in, but wife twisted my arm. When I turned it on, we had around a 10pt lead, when I turned it off and went to bed, we were down 2. I was really hoping that my jinx could be undone by tuning out, but apparently it wasn’t. Sorry… I let the whole team down. 🙁

  • As a good buddy of mine always says, it’s like kissing your sister. (I don’t have a sister, so I wouldn’t know. But he is married to his cousin so… not really but that’s the running joke.)

  • And if we did both, we’d probably be a 6 or 7 seed. But alas they did none of the above and sadly underperformed what could have been a really good year. I’m profoundly disappointed and the buck stops with Uncle Fester.

  • You can not advance the ball in college.

  • I could not believe that the refs called that incidental, at a minimum it was a hook & hold by their own definition.

From The Book of Knowledge: “The “hook and hold” rule is a new rule change instituted by the NCAA that bans players from clamping an arm onto another player’s arm and restricting freedom of movement during a rebound.

  • I hope he did move on to a better situation for him and his family. I just still think its weird that they dont ever even mention him. He was the ESPN color guy for a looong time, and they pretend like he never existed.

Btw, side topic. I absolutely hate the new milieu of which both Mooney and Craig are part that abuses the word “right?”. Its…[Read more]

  • Dont mind Mooney, he’s fine. And Jimmy wasnt the most polished but seems weird like they act like he never existed. And Craig said something about Mooney being an ‘upgrade’ which seemed like a backhanded slap to Jimmy.

    Just curious.

  • I would add that in either case, recruiter or mastermind, you have to be able to motivate. You have to build a culture of accountability, and of confidence. CS has unfortunately shown that he is unable to do either. This team simply does not believe in their own ability to make shots, to make FT, and to grind out close wins. His team has quit…[Read more]

  • I don’t consider myself a homer, and I’m not going anywhere. But I am man enough to admit that while I was hopeful and see some things that are much better than Krystko, I have to now admit that the things that are wrong are directly at his feet and fundamental. If there is one thing I can’t stand, it’s bad fundamentals.

I hung on as long as I could, I liked a lot of what I saw early, but I’m out. I stand my my opinion that he is an upgrade from K. but at the end of the day, he isn’t getting it done.

One of my observations is he has a habit of infantilizing the team. He refers to them as “kids” and refers to coaching like “parenting”. He also says things like…[Read more]

  • The interesting thing is that we got worse. I did some numbers on this in another post and i dont want to look it up, but we were like close to 70% before jan 1, and like just over 50% since.

That said, agree they cant and shouldnt say “we are a good freethrow shooting team”. That is provably and objectively false. You can say “we have the poten…[Read more]

And they had several good looks that just didn’t go. I agree the officiating sucked, I also agree not making FT is inexcusable, but despite all that, we had our chances and we came up short.
