I wish I could peek in on a parallel universe where Craig Smith just let’s his best (its all relative) players just play, and would quit tinkering with minutes and lineups. I don’t think you can overestimate the value of reps at game speed. And I’d feel a bit different if I thought that there were players (like Keller) that are getting minutes…[Read more]

I made the same comment about 3-4 weeks ago, and go similar replies. I think it has a bigger impact on recruiting than people realize.

I agree, he did shoot 36% from 3, so his eFG is still 54%, which is much better than Ezra at 40%. However it pales in comparison to Keanu, Mike, and Lawson each at 80%. Which (broken record here) Ezra played 27min, was in foul trouble, had a BPM of -5.4 and GmSc of 3.6 compared to Keanu that only played 20min, was not in foul trouble and had a…[Read more]

All I have to say on the matter is that in 4 to 6 years, we are going to realize that the Who said it best many years ago. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. The grift isn’t going anywhere, if we are lucky, we’ll just change out the old faces for new ones. Worst case, the old faces run out the clock. Either way, permanent Washington will…[Read more]

We have lost 5 games total:
NW on 11/14 (whoops, our only ‘bad’ loss)
Miss St. on 11/28 but just LOOK at their strength of schedule. They’ve lost 8 games, but 5 have been to ranked opponents. If they make it into the tournament, nobody should be overlooking them. They are battle tested!
K St. (14)
Baylor (25)
TCU (11)We desperately need a…[Read more]

Minnesota Ute replied to the topic Bartle latest to criticize Craig Smith’s sub patterns in the forum Basketball (Men) 1 week, 6 days ago
I’d have to go back and look to see when I first started ramping up my criticism, but I believe it was around the BYU/Houston games because he had good minutes and put up solid numbers in victories over OSU and TCU, only to fall off the map against BYU. Anyway, regardless of when it started, it’s beyond ridiculous now.
Keanu’s BPM for WV game…[Read more]

That is no excuse. If you don’t have the talent, then you take your 5-6 most productive guys and they all get the majority of the minutes and you take your next 2-3 most productive and use then as needed. The problem with using talent as an excuse for the merry go round is that your 5-6 best players need as many minutes at live game speed to…[Read more]

It is not comforting to hear everyone finally coming around to what I’ve been saying for weeks if not a month, but at least the ones making excuses for Smith and saying Keanu lacks consistency will disappear. He has been nothing but consistent, but as I said again on late last week, there is something Craig “doesn’t like” about Keanu, because…[Read more]

My son’s experience echoed this as well. The kid he kept losing his minutes to was 6’8 and started playing late. My son was only 6’4 but twice as thick and had been playing post with this group of kids since they were in 3rd grade (going largely undefeated in school and traveling ball for years). The coach, who was new to town, seemed hell bent…[Read more]

Trust me, we do not want Pitino, he kind of seems like a neppo baby to me. I saw no evidence that he was much of a coach/leader at Minnesota.

Hopefully when Gabe realizes it, he says: Well, there is only one thing left to do…
It’s been on my mind because I watched a youtube video that provided the only rational realistic explanation that I’ve heard for the Luka Donzic (or however you spell it) trade. As the theory goes, Mavs tank, so that the franchise can move to Vegas. Good for…[Read more]

I can not endorse this post high enough, you are exactly correct. Not to make this about me, but as I’ve relayed in other posts, my middle son went through this exact thing in high school. Like Craig, he had certain players that played consistently (for Craig that seems only to be Gabe), but the rest of the lineup is a crap shoot every…[Read more]

Minnesota Ute replied to the topic If we lose to Colorado at home, I may need to take a break… in the forum Basketball (Men) 2 weeks, 3 days ago
This is the second time this season that I’ve watched the girls and boys play back to back, and I have to say that objectively speaking, if you like basketball like I do, the girls are just a lot more fun to watch. They make a lot more buckets, and space the floor nicely. Frankly I’m a bit amazed at how far the girls game has come. Because I…[Read more]

And therein lies my concern. I’m still a little shocked that we lost to OSU. It seems to me like the book is out on us, apply a bunch of pressure and we just crumble.

I hope I never get to that point. I’ve kept fighting through Giac, through Boylen, thru the bad and getting worse Krystko years.
I’m not gonna lie, it’s getting old and I’m really glad (I can’t believe I’m saying this) that the women are fun to watch this year. Hope they get really hot for the second half of the season, they really need a…[Read more]

Yup, it’s always mix and match with him. And no rhyme or reason, or so it looks, for the lineups he chooses. I’m sorry to be a broken record, but yet again, I see no reason why Keanu shouldn’t be starting and playing most of the game. On the flip side, I can NOT understand why Keller is seeing any minutes. At this point, I’m almost hate…[Read more]
