It’s not in Utah’s interests for Stanford to upset Washington.  We don’t play Stanford, so we’ll need Washington ranked as high as possible by the time we play them.  And since both UW and SU play in the North, the outcome of that game would have no impact on our ability to win the South.

Don’t forget also that former 4-star LB/Stanford transfer Sione Lund sat out last year, and will be eligible for the 2019 season.

Personally, I hope that Thompson doesn’t transfer, but since Utah moved to the base nickel defense (only 2 LBs on the field), we should have fairly decent depth at that position by the time Fall Camp rolls around.

I think getting USC early plays to our favor, as there’s a lot of turmoil and drama going on over there. Ergo, the less time they have to “get it together”, the better it is for the Utes — a team who’d already gotten it together.
