This. Whit always goes with the “safe” choice on offense over the possibility of turnovers. At some point (and maybe we’ve seen it today), he has to accept that the risk of a fumble or two a game are more than outweighed by the improvement in the offense.

Clearly a genius game-plan by Whit and Lud. Run Barnes out with a totally incompetent offense for 3 quarters, wear down Baylor with a false sense of security, and then BAM! in comes the real offense for the fourth quarter to finish them off. <Chef’s kiss.>

I was super impressed with the punt team. The punter was either booming 60 yards punts or pinning them inside the 5 every time. The fact that the coverage was so good even on the deep punts was impressive, too. Even the punt that didn’t count because of the dumbass penalty on Florida would have been inside the 5. I’m in favor of shortening games. College games have gotten too long. Four hour games are too much.
Of course, like others said, I’d rather they cut down on commercials. But TV money is king, so that’s never going to happen.

I live near Portland. It’s been great that almost every year I’ve been able to go to a Utah game at UO, OSU, or UW. I’m glad they’ll have a stable home after the PAC, but my personal interest level is definitely going to wane.

USC has some ridiculous individual playmakers on offense, but they sure don’t look like a top 10 team. Not impressed last week at OSU. Not impressed tonight against ASU.

Reason #1. Lower bowl tickets to their Who-Cares bowl game are going for $24. The cheapest public tickets I currently see for the Rose Bowl are $550.
Reason #2. See Reason #1 above. That’s it. I got nothing else. I’m going to go back to not caring about them at all again.

Still don’t feel good about it. But Utah had a great plan to overcome it, don’t. Only two punts in the entire game, none in the second half. Let’s just do that every week.

Lest it be lost in the shuffle of the football game, the Men’s Basketball team picked up a nice win over Boston College today, and will play tomorrow in the Sunshine Slam championship. Always nice to pick up a win over an ACC team, even if it is a bad ACC team.

I wasn’t sold on the O-line improvements after USC. I’m a believer tonight. Will still have some big challenges ahead of them, but they don’t look like the same unit as all that we saw earlier in the year.

Obviously the O-Line played a lot better against USC. But (without going back and watching it again) it seemed to me that USC played more vanilla up front, and didn’t blitz or call exotic stunts nearly as much as it seemed we saw against BYU and SDSU.
