Love the pickup! A ‘Larry Czonka’ type, … tough, tough running back. Shula remolded Czonka’s running game back in the day to literally become a human ‘bulldozer’. A little smaller but Washington may give the Utes the same. You need 2-3 yards, you get 2-3 yards!

BTW, I’m eating some crow right now, too. Thought Whitt was all washed up. But, really liking every pickup the Utes have made so far.

For the record I don’t think it’s actually Whitt calling these shots. This isn’t his style. I believe though, he wisely turned the offensive recruiting reins over to Beck who in my mind is making some very smart moves rebuilding this offense.

Have you seen the film on Dampier? Quick, and can put the ball on a dime in a gallup. The Utes may end up being dangerous on offense next year. There’s life in this team yet!!!

I guess, to distill the issue, my point is if you’re turned on by MINOR LEAGUE Professional baseball, football, soccer, whatever … go for it! Not going to criticize anyone if that’s your thing. For others, …they’re done.

Fact: Utah football doesn’t exist anymore! Utah SPONSORED Professional Minor league football is the
replacement for the game we all knew. They may end up being good at it, or they may not. $$$$ will probably rule. It is what it is. Not weighing in on that.

But for those who want to try to turn back the clock …good luck.

News release from CBS Sports/247 Sports. Matt Zenitz reporting

“Cam Rising not expected to return to Utah
It appears that Cam Rising’s run at Utah is over.”

“The current expectation is that the star QB won’t be back with the Utes next season, sources tell CBS Sports/247Sports.”

Now, for me, I’m not taking a position one way or the other whether Cam should stay or leave. … but… I do strongly say… Something just doesn’t smell right here if this story is true. “Appears”, “current expectation is”, “sources”.?!?

After Cam’s unsurpassed run on the field and in the hearts of the fans, I can’t imagine he would simply take off and have a 3rd party issue a half baked statement announcing his departure. If Rising really is calling it quits at Utah I would expect either an official announcement on his part or the University publicly recognize his tremendous contribution to the team and program. “No question about it”!

The other side of the coin though, is that with the portal opening up, there is no way any quality future QB recruit would consider the U if Cam was known to be coming back,… it obviously would torpedo any serious recruitment.

We need QB depth and the only way to fill the room is with the perception that Cam has moved on.

Guess we’ll find out in the Spring if he shows up in helmet and pads!

      Hey, you geniuses.

Question: Tell me, at this point in time, what is the downside to disclosing if ‘you’re (Whitt) coming back?’ There is NO downside! And likewise, if you’re moving on, ‘what’s the downside to disclosing it? There is NO downside! THINK ABOUT IT! Uncertainty…that’s what you’ve got right now!

You want the best talent? You gotta get after it EARLY, and be the first to knock down the doors of opportunity. Sounds like you boys are OK with losing and mediocrity. Not Me. You want an example? OK. DR. Hill had his sights on Urban long before the end of the ’02 season. Urban to Utah was a done deal the moment the Utah/BYU game finished. And we nailed it!

      Uncertainty, boys. Think about it?!!!

Thanks Jim for your perspective. I believe you are spot on.

Kliavkoff was old school and reactionary. Probably viewed his mandate simply as one to negotiate a deal for the PAC 12. Didn’t see the landscape rapidly changing in college football all around him and I believe was naively broadsided by it all.

Yormark seems to be by contrast, aggressive and visionary. Understood the tenuous place the BIG 12 was in but held his ground waiting for the moment to pounce. And it worked. Presently is chipping away at the old ‘norms’ and looking for innovative ways to close the gap between the Big 2 and the BIG 12. Let’s give him some time. I’m sensing he has a long range plan and some short term tweaks on the clipboard. A BYU/UTAH matchup Thanksgiving weekend may be just one of those offerings that will play big on the national stage that he’s considering. Hope So!

      Gamy,

I always love when someone says, “no disrespect intended”, but then goes on to be as disrespectful as H*ll trashing his target. Doesn’t play good. Listen, you line up against your opponent and play the game. It’s the way it’s always been and the way it will always be. Besides, what do you base this denigration of Armstrong on? His teams played in a different era? Weak man, very weak.

And in the next breath you are probably going to claim that Whittingham’s Utes would have run roughshod through the SEC and BIG 10 had he been in those conferences. Don’t think so. Credit Whittingham for what he has done and Armstrong for the same!!!

      Brettski,

You’re way too far over your skis, Man! I’ve covered this before. I have 5 GENERATIONS of UTE blood in my veins. And proud of it! Bet that’s 3 to 4 times at least more than you! But that’s not the point here.

I ask the hypothetical question to try to get some of you non-thinkers to consider where the program is headed. You may not be aware that the all time LOOSING STREAK for one season at the U belongs to Tom Levat in 1974 .. who was later justifiably fired. Whitt has now unceremoniously tied him for futility. There’s a good chance he will break that record this week! That is totally unacceptable for a proud Utah Program! Period! Full on Exclamation Point!

The House is on Fire! And some of you are saying ‘until it burns completely down to ashes, I’m on board with Whitt’.

Makes my wonder who’s really the Troll here. What’s your real Motive? Either you and a few other out- spoken ‘Whitt Homers’ here are associated with the program, pulling down a fat paycheck while Utah football is dying on the vine, or you guys are Trolling the board. From your comments, can’t imagine you really want the Utes to fix the problems and rebuild this failure of a program!

That’s not the question. It’s about Whittingham as Utah’s coach going forward. Do you say, “thank’s Coach, but we’re moving on”..or “you’re our man for the next 3 years”.

Sincerely, thanks to each and every one who has posted. A lot of good comments and opinions!

Just want to clarify. I AM NOT calling for Coach Whittingham to be fired. No. Not at all! Too good of a coach! Too good of a man who had given his very best to The University, with amazing success. Thank you Coach! No. I am just asking Coach to look objectively at the program as it stands presently and honestly consider passing on the baton.

Consider this. If this WAS THE LAST YEAR in Whitt’s contract, how many of you, how many tens of thousands of UTE fans who loyally support this program and fill up Ute Stadium each game, would be ‘Clamoring’ right now for the higher ups to RENEW or RENEGOTIATE Whit’s contract for another 1 or 2 or 3 more years??

Of course this is a rhetorical question and can’t accurately be answered. My guess though is that under this scenario most Ute fans would be very appreciative of Whitt’ s body of work, but also be encouraging him to look to retirement and let the program to move forward. With Scalley’s appointment in place why not move forward now?

I bring up the salary issue only because it really is the deal breaker. Frankly, I don’t think there are many that could walk away from generational wealth for their family. Just sayin.

      That’s it. Thanks for reading’!

      And Shame,

My post history is consistent. It’s time for Whitt to retire. He’s old. The game’s passing him by. The program is in shambles. Sorry, but that’s a fact! You must be part of Whitt’s staff to not see it. Oh, and by the way, I’ll bet my pedigree at the U goes way beyond yours. 5 generations, man …and proud of it!!
