ProudUte replied to the topic Another LB entering the portal in the forum Football 11 months, 3 weeks ago
It seems that gone are the days when you could develop players. Everyone is looking to get on the field ASAP.
Barton’s older brother Cody, who played LB for us, did not see a ton of playing time until he was a junior if I remember right. I don’t think he was a full-time starter until he was a senior. Now he is starting in the NFL.
I struggle…[Read more]

ProudUte started the topic Isaac Wilson talks about being a Ute in the forum Football 11 months, 3 weeks ago
Riley interviewed him yesterday.
Summary of the interview:
His senior season meant a lot to him because they were able to beat Skyridge which beat them in the championship last year.
His focus this season was to cut down on turnovers and reading through his progressions. His coach helped him improve in these areas. He learned to take the…[Read more]

I never understood all the love the pro scouts showed Wilson. Yes, BYU played a pathetic 2020 COVID schedule. It made him look better than he was. But, the scouts should have known that. I had nothing against Zach, I just did not see what the scouts were seeing.
On the other hand, I have watched Isaac play a lot. I am impressed with his…[Read more]

It would make no sense to transfer to that program which is such a mess right now.

Ben Criddle retweeted a tweet from Vaki from 2018 today. The tweet talks about his visit to BYU and shows a pic of him and Sitake. The tweet said this is where his mom always wanted him to go to school.
Criddle is such a BYU homer that he can’t see outside of Provo. But, I wonder what he is trying to do with this retweet.

This season was a mess and things were not communicated well all across the line. This created some confusion.
IMO, I don’t think Nat has what it takes to be a D1 QB. But, I wish him the best going forward.

Maybe it’s time we make an offer to Bo Tate from Corner Canyon. He committed to Baylor. But, I understand from sources close to his family, he would jump at an offer from Utah. We need to move quickly on this one if we want to do it.

Good to hear. We are building a team for 2024.
We may not have a lot of room for new recruits. Of course, some players will leave the team for more playing time.

Thanks, Onlyu. Great information. I think the staff is all in for a playoff bid in 2024 and then there will likely be a lot of changes.
Go Utes!!!

I like coach Ludwig, but I don’t think he has done a great job developing QB. I am not going to list names here, but there have been plenty of highly rated QBs who never …
This year was very sad. I saw a freshman Fifita at Arizona kill it. We have tried a myriad of QBs who were not ready for the big-time. They looked lost and lacked…[Read more]

ProudUte started the topic The difference a confident QB can make in the forum Football 11 months, 3 weeks ago
I watched the Oregon/Oregon State game last Friday. Bo Nix is a talented QB with a ton of confidence. Third and long was never a problem for him. It made me think about the Came Rising we saw in the USC game in October 2022. He had confidence to move the team and he had great confidence that if he threw it to Kincaid, he would catch it.

Let me try to answer your points in bold below.
– Why do you think Shah failed? Special teams was not an issue this year at all. Our kicker got hurt. When he played, he played great. Our punter had a good year as well. Some areas need to improve I guess, but Shah did not fail. I don’t know when you turned into Mr. Negative Nancy.
Have you see…[Read more]

I understand your valid points on Vaki and our running backs. Also, I stated he should be moved only if he is willing to make the move. I would NOT require him to move. The same was done with JJ from QB to RB. JJ chose to make a permanent move and it has worked out for him.
I am not a coach. I am not even a former player. But, from my…[Read more]

I agree with both of your additional points. I really like our passing game in 2019. I hope we can see a solid passing game with Cam in 2024.

That would be a fun game, if we have enough healthy players to play. Whitt once said that Barton could be game-ready by the bowl game.

First, let me clarify that I realize that there is much I do not know and will likely never know behind the scenes with the Utah football program. I am a just long-time fan who would love to see Utah get to that next level.
Second, I think Utah is in a great position to be relevant in the 12-team CFP in 2024. Here are the things “I” would…[Read more]

ProudUte started the topic Josh Newman clarifies current QB situation in the forum Football 11 months, 3 weeks ago
This article clarifies the current QB situation. Some key points:
– Howard is not ready.
– They are indeed trying to get Rose a medical redshirt, so they do not want to play him.
– Barnes may be ready to play by the bowl game. This implies to be that he has an injury and was not sick with the flu as was reported. If Barnes cannot go,…[Read more] -

But, I do think we could have done better. We were killed by Oregon and they are a much better team. We could have beat UW and showed much better against AZ and OSU.
We won today, playing the Whitt style of playing not to lose. I suppose he felt that any turnovers would be too costly. I love Whitt as our head coach, but today’s game was…[Read more]

We will apparently be starting the 5th-string QB this weekend.
We are down to the third-string TE.
Jackson has been hobbled all season. Bernard played in one game. Curry was only able to play a few plays. Vaki looked good, then he has not been at full strength since USC.
We have had some injuries at WR and offensive line too.
On defense -…[Read more]
